Leupold BX-4 Rangefinding Binoculars

New FWP Director

Wow! Kelly Flynn had 102 and 104% rating with UPOM and that guy was very nice to me. Even said to come back next spring and hunt some turkeys because he was booked that year. Unfortunately I read in the newspaper that he passed that following year. God Bless him

I've known and admired Christy since 2008 or 9. Worked with her during her terms in the legislature and when we were developing & passing the Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act.

She will be a good director and deserves a chance and a little help to be successful. If the first reaction is to attack, then you are simply setting the stage for irrelevance.
I'll work on being an optimist, @Ben Lamb.

Can you give me a reason to hope? The voting record seems to paint a picture I'm frankly sick of seeing.

If you don’t think the dept needs change come ask anyone in R6-7 their thoughts.
If R6-7 issue were to be solved by FWP, I would rather have a Director be a sportsmen with a sound science background. Rancher loved by UPOM?.....not so much.

Is it true she has a 100% rating from UPOM? If so, sportsmen have solid basis for concern.

She had a 60% rating from MSA in 2015. There isn't a scorecard for 2013. I know that during her tenure, the approach she took was about finding common ground & listening to all sides.

A voting record from 10 years ago is a starting point for making some assumptions, but rather than getting a pitchfork & some torches, maybe ask for a sit down with her and discuss some of those concerns and offer some ideas for fwp to look at.

Always catch more flies with honey instead of vinegar.

I love your optimism Ben. You and I were also the ones that said Hank would do a good job. I have since refrained from these types of endorsements 😬. I’ll give her a chance, but I’m not holding my breath.

Hank is still my friend, even though we disagree on a lot of issues. As far as endorsements, I'll keep giving them to those who have earned them. It's up to them to live up to the endorsement afterwards. Or not.

The elk plan we got from Hank & Dustin is good. The habitat leasing program is becoming very well done and has a potential to create significant conservation uplift and access to private land.

It's not all doom & gloom. Christy deserves our best effort, so does the agency & the wildlife. We get nothing by alienating the director other than excluded from the table.

Well, Gianforte bypassed anybody with science or fish/wildlife biological background and instead has chosen Christi Clark, Choteau Rancher, who sold out her ranch to David Letterman some time ago. That's three FWP Directors and a Commission that Gianforte appointed, none representing science or the average sportsman.
Have you seen the picks to run the country lately?

I’m gonna side with @Ben Lamb here- let’s approach this with helpful optimism and push for the improvement of fish, wildlife, and public access.

However- that also means holding leadership accountable for shortfalls and bad policy. It’ll be easier to work with the new director rather than immediately going into attack mode.

Hard to score a touchdown if you’re always on defense.
