My new beagle is 10 months old and lives to hunt. It runs rabbits great but it also will run deer. I have been working on getting out ahead of him and when I know it's a deer I can give him a shock or 3. Lately one zap or even tone will turn him off them and he is back to hunting. The only problem is he still starts deer and I'm afraid to run him in hare country because I won't be able to see what he is on. Is there anything to help this problem other than time and shock collars ? I'm hopeful he grows out of it but we'll see.

That is still really young. I would probably turn him lose on a known deer track/sighting a vibrate then shock and try to get back on rabbit tracks. At least he is tracking game that is way better than not running anything

His brother is a complete opposite. He will watch a rabbit run across the field and pick up a stick to play. Mine has drive he wants to chase just that he chases everything.
