Other ideas to fill the freezer?

In all seriousness, CO hasn't had crap for leftover deer tags in some time, especially since we went to 100% youth preference in the secondary draw.
Yea honestly I haven't looked since I was a resident and it has been a few years. That's too bad. I could always rely on grabbing a leftover tag only a few years ago.

I remember days of there being over 1,200 buck tags leftover for a single hunt code. Now very few hunt codes even have 1,000 tags.

Morning all,

My blood is only at a slight simmer as I just failed to draw the Montana combo for the second year in a row. I should have done zero points last year, but didn’t know the 0 point trick until it was too late. I can’t wrap my mind around how I didn’t draw this year. In the words of the pirate character in the movie Dodgeball, “GAR!”

So, I am searching for ideas to fill the freezer. I’m in Washington, but will travel. I have my general permits in Washington, and will be putting in for special permits here.

Any ideas for meat hunts?

Sincerely, Frustrated in Spokane
If you’re trying to fill the freezer, why not go for a MT cow tag?

Have you seen the price of literally anything (including inputs for hunting trips)? You'll never convince me that out of state hunts that are cheaper than Costco pork when comparing price spent for pound acquired.
Pretty cheap to throw together a cow elk hunt with a relatively short drive. Sleep in your truck/tent/camper and eat instant oatmeal and canned chili. Bet it would be cheaper than a $2500 half a beef. That buffalo shoot sounds like a pretty good deal too.

Shouldn’t your comparison use a red meat like beef? Beef is at an all time high right now.

However, I don’t hunt because I think I’m saving money on meat. My local elk is cheap for me - $30 tag, diesel and miscellaneous minor costs. I’ve owned my hunting gear for a long time. My chukar costs are the most expensive poultry in the world per pound. Great chukar hunting when the bird numbers are high and I have an experienced dog is one of my favorite hunts.

Move outta Washington seems like a good idea.

We’re dying too. My wife and I are both in our second marriage and our 8th Grade daughters Dad is in Spokane or we’d be gonzo. We’re actually pondering moving to Post Falls or CDA, just to get out of this cluster eff.

The goal is hunting and filling the freezer with free range wild game.

A cow hunt this fall and a bear in the spring may be perfect. I whiffed on Oregon Bear this year. I’ve had some kind souls mention Montana and Idaho for cows. I’m not against dumping does in the right region.

I have a pile of turkey tags to fill.
