Part of the reason these games haven't been made in years is that the profits relied so heavily on the players' likenesses that EA didn't want to eventually be sued for royalties. Now that the players can profit from their Name Image and Likeness, EA will start making these games again and those players used will get a cut. There will probably have to be a settlement with the players they used in the past, but that will take a long time and most will get pennies on the dollar of what they should have earned from those games.

The NCAA’s grip on “amateurism” is rightfully slipping. The guise has been a joke for decades. This adaptation for the NCAA to more closely align with society is necessary for it to survive before it gets sued into bankruptcy. The NCAA’s argument about the criticality of maintaining amateurism to keep college athletics “pure” was basically laughed out of the Supreme Court. This development was inevitable.

I think the biggest benefit is those athletes that are playing at schools that are not top tier athletic money factories. They will be able to have a student job for pay, will be able to have paid internships, and be able to be given a free meal here and there and not have to worry about the NCAA. If one considers the amount of work that a small school or non-headline sport athlete puts in for a part of a ride, they work many more hours than the scholarship dollars end up being worth.

No it isn't. It's going to take time to see where this goes and how it will work. And who cares if it is a recruiting tool? Many other "tools" used. I think it's great for these kids. mtmuley

Coaches will have to address it in the recruiting process. Will big Universities like Kentucky basketball hire staff to help the players with their brand?

You are right it’s not a big deal. Hopefully the kids get what they deserve and can still get an education.
I guess I don't understand how NIL will interfere with a kid getting an education. mtmuley

Would be a shame if athletes learned a practical skill like brand management in college.
I mean teaching skills they will use for the rest of their career… what a waste of time.

Ewers has been set to attend Ohio State in 2022, but might head to the buckeye state a year early. The NIL money is the big draw. Ewers is reported to have already be offered near seven figures in endorsements. One such endorsement is from Holy Kombucha. They made Ewers an offer that includes cash and equity in the company. However, accepting any such offer would make Ewers ineligible for high school football.
