My 2021 Iowa season

The fishing was pretty slow over vacation. Got a few bluegills and perch but nothing to brag about.
Also did a little scouting in my public land stomping grounds.

Found some sign.

Hiking boots started falling apart but I managed a very short hike in yellow river state forest.

Then I stumbled upon a sunflower patch on public I might have to check out come dove season.

I hiked the saddle loop trail to the fire tower to browns hollow back to Donahue road. It’s my favorite hike out there and I need to do it more.

Taking the wife on the wolf lunch train today out of Boone iowa. We really enjoyed the 1880s train in Hill city South Dakota so we thought we would give the wolf train a go.

Had a great day on the dinner train.

Had a private room to enjoy our meal.

We both had barbecue grilled chicken and bacon sandwich with baked beans and cheesy potatoes.

The wife gave me an odd look when I got most excited about the public hunting area I found.

Got a sports cam for my birthday on Sunday. I believe it's a cheap version of the go pro. Going to try and video a few things this fall. I'm not at all tech savvy so a kid at work who is very interested in filming hunts is going to help with the editing and posting on HT for me.

Getting ready to shoot my bow this evening my brain started coming up with some ideas. I always shoot off my front deck wich is only about 3 ft off the ground. Usually put my target straight out towards the ditch and road wich max yards is 25. I really don't like to shoot my bow farther than that anyway but would like to practice out to 40 yards. Just so happens I have 2 old ladder stands in my barn and a tree with about 40 yards of yard space in my backyard. Just need to go to the hardware store for some nuts and bolts and a couple straps and I will have a new archery range behind the house.

Ran to scheels this morning for some muzzleloader bullets and decided on an extra purchase.

Got the Phelps bugle tube with 2 rocky mountain diaphragm calls. Watching some cory Jacobson how to videos now.
My wife ISN'T thrilled about the noise I'm making in the house. LOL

Went and checked some of our deer stands today. Need to replace some straps and trim a few branches. Put a few rounds through the muzzleloader and it is dead on at 50 yards. Did that in the back yard. Taking it to the range tomorrow to stretch it out further.

Also got the backyard archery range setup. The stakes are at 20, 30, and 40 yards.

Getting a sirloin steak ready for the grill and going to shoot the bow now.

Might help to have a larger target at 40 yards. If you aim for one of top dots and it hits high the field point can glance off the hard plastic on top of the block and end up far away in some neighbor’s yard - don’t ask me how I know this.

Good thinking. It's just my grove and corn field behind the target but still don't need to lose arrows.

Nice haul ! What do you do with the big puffballs ? I have seen quite a few this year, including one the size of a beach ball!
