Montana Unit 426

Lucky this year to draw an elk tag in Montana's unit 426-20 and plan to hunt archery and rifle if needed.

Has anyone had experience in this unit that would like to share?

Id be interested to hear as well. I drew a 900-20 tag and can archery hunt up there. Theres some plots of BLM land around but I'm not sure how easy they are to access. Nor if there is any elk up there

Luke, Montana archery will not open until September 5th.

And the original post is two years old. He likely had time to use his permit.

I tried to draw the 900-20 tag this year but no luck but it was my first time entering the Montana draw for any tag but I did draw a general combo tag anyway. The nice thing about the 900-20 tag is you can still hunt the General units, it just gives a person extra options. Unfortunately many of the 900-20 units are mostly private land but being that they are not part of the general hunt I would think a person could get away from the crowds?

426 is general for cows, plus lots of deer hunters , not much blm that’s accessible and mostly private

I know several people even some local landowners in 426 that have had trouble getting bulls when they get the tag . There’s elk around but the unit to the East is much better elk hunting with much much more public and bma’s
