Colorado unit 49

I was asked what our elk hunting experience consisted of. So I told him. Not to brag. We have only hunted elk for 3 days. We are not professionals by any means. You should try looking at the whole conversation not just a piece of it. Starting to act like a democrat.
Well, when conversations turn like this and political name calling starts, I’m out.

Explain to me what name calling me a democrat has anything to do with what I said.

Your incoherence is misguiding you to name calling me is ridiculous, so let me break out the crayons. What I’m telling you is you clearly don’t need help if you’re able to take down a bull. There’s a million pieces of resources to give you that “starting point” you’re looking for. Instead of mooching from forum members and burning unit spots, do your part in the process and then ask for help.

your right that was to far. But you didn’t read the whole conversation and acted like you did just to make me look like I was bragging it seemed like. So I fired back.

No one ever said I was lookin for a starting place. Any info is helpful you can just share your experience in 49. Not try to piece together a narrative to fit your agenda whatever that may be. Last time I used this forum I had really positive feedback but there’s always got to be one.

How about pictures of the three elk…NM 36 and CO 49 are two completely different units. Best of luck to you.
Yea I understand they are probably gonna be quite a bit different. But I like hearing peoples experiences and Maby what to expect

The only 2 things those sates have in common as far as elk hunting is you drive thru one to get to the other. Best of luck

As has been said, don't expect CO 49 to resemble anything like NM 36. IF that was your first elk hunting experience you're in for a sad reality when now hunting other places. That part of NM is loaded with elk. It's probably the easiest place to shoot a bull that I have ever hunted and I have hunted elk in every western state. Not saying that is bad, just don't expect that in other places. 49 has plenty of elk for a good hunt, but it will be nothing like NM 36. I assume you guys have 10+ points in CO? That's what it will take for a tag in there now.

Yea my buddy has 10 points. I’m just a tag along and caller for him. I understand it’ll be tougher than 36. Just hoping there are enough elk to hunt in 49 co. Not knowing anything about it and never hunting co

It is unlikely you will be calling in many bulls by mid October. There are plenty of elk in 49, if you understand elk habitat and sanctuary areas you will have no problems finding them. Good luck

Sweet. Our hunt will be mid September. Should be fairly vocal I would think

Archery draw in unit 49 for 2023 took non-res. eight points either sex. With point creep your buddy has a decent chance of getting a tag. What is it that "draws" you to 49 so much?

Starting to act like a democrat.
I spend 100 days/year hiking and photographing elk in 49. Every year I assist hunters new to the unit because it takes years to draw the tag, hard to get experience here and because they impress me as people and sportspeople. I am a democrat. Don't even ask. Instead, take the hints posted here and step back from being that guy who shows up on HT just to find out where experienced hunters kill game.
