My experience a couple of days ago. In his defense, I had just field dressed my wife's buck so I smelled like a deer.

We got into a good pocket, 17 bucks over 2.5 days, the majority 4x4's. All were rutting. All were left unharmed.

No doubt, but I’m not seeing it. Looked over a bunch of mulies a few days ago and only seen a few small bucks. No obvious rutting behavior. Watched a couple small 4x4 whitetails last night, some light sparing but they were still buds.

Guy i know lives in Elkhorns off 15. He has been seeing bucks getting sniffy.

The “big” bucks aren’t rutting yet.

I had a biologist tell me once that every buck in Montana is rutting before Nov. 10. That was 20 years ago and since then I have decided he was right.

Bigger bucks travel a lot during the rut. Unless you are staring at the same area for a long time as in hours or days, you won't catch a glimpse of them when they come by. They also move from doe group to doe group ... another reason you may not be seeing them.
