Montana House Bill 676 - This could sell off 1.25M acres of State Trust Lands - that's almost 25%!!! This is not the Homesteading Bill

[/QUOTE]
The other thought in my mind on this is that the monies gained by sale of inaccessible state properties possibly can build a pool of money for the state to use to purchase a like number of acres (no net acres gained) for the public. The possibility to purchase better places with access to recreational land.

If this is what you want to happen thats great, but come on man you know the odds of it actually happening are astronomical. So to vote yes on a terrible bill hoping for that outcome is not smart. The bill is vague on details and rotten on the surface and you know that the majority of Montnanan constituents would not be in favor but you voted yes anyways. You should be able to articulate a better reason for your vote than the two you pissed out so far.

Maybe Ler plans to buy some of that “isolated” state ground with some of the $1,000,000+ his family has received in farm subsidies over the last 20 years. Ler is a welfare baby.

ccan you imagine who would actually be allowed to purchase these if it were to pass, and at what price,,,

the person that owns the surrounding parcel most likely, and since there landlocked there worth mere pennies on the dollar,
after there sold though and in one piece, the price would be astronomical for resell,

American Prairie might have some properties to buy after all,
seems very few people would actually benefit,
montana sportsmen. would get the shaft,
anyone that would vote for this bill needs remembered during election

Aint just sportsman. Itll be the property taxes that go up, or the school funding going down.

Oh so glad you speak of the possibilities! 🤗

Sh!t 💩 in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first.

Do you honestly believe this would ever even be pursued, let alone happen?

Almost a week into this and still no call to action that I’ve seen from conservation orgs. Am I missing something? Why aren’t we hearing more about this? It’s potentially the biggest land grab that we’ve seen in MT. I’m hoping that someone in know will telll us it’s DOA in the senate. @DP_PublicLands @Big Fin @Ben Lamb

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully they are working behind the scenes?

I don't think you are missing something. Lots of problems with this bill, from many different angles and interest groups. Thus, the bill still awaits assignment, so it is hard to ask people to comment in an effective manner without knowing where/when the bill is headed.

I wouldn't say it is DOA in the Senate, but hopefully will die a quick death there. Suffice to say, the Governor is not too interested in seeing this bill on his desk; helpful to killing this bill in the Senate.

Thank you. I've held off on commenting for the very reason that you mentioned. I will continue to monitor it here.

Hello Southern Elk!

The session is on a break this week so there's no updates. You should start seeing some stuff from BHA, Montana Wildlife Federation, etc. PLWA is trying to get the word out as much as possible - you should follow us on social media.

Thank you and I will do that.

BHA mentions this bill here, although there is no link to take action.
