Montana draw

I really wish other states would follow Alaskas lead and just publish the entire draw list with everyone's name, I'm sure that level of transparency would shine some light on some pretty fishy stuff.
Sooooo I dunno if anyone has heard this but I've heard about it from 2 Landowners. Both in region 7 with large ranches. They've said to me they've received lists of license holders for elk with contact information?

I've heard of guys getting outfitter information in the mail for sheep tags and what not from outfitters.

My question is has anyone else heard of this and second if it is real where the hell do they get the information from?

There's a little box you can click at checkout regarding releasing your info to the "public." Perhaps folks on those lists checked the box?

799-20 went from 225 to 280 and now to 308 tags....
This is the one place I wanted to hunt rifle elk at in Montana. Was the reason I was buying elk bonus points for the last 4 or 5 years.

Looks like to me the elk hunting on the Custer is going the same way as the mule deer hunting.

I am sure sorry for all you Montanans having to watch this mess up close and personal.

Buddies dad was contacted a few years back by taxidermist after he drew a sheep tag. It’s all info that can be obtained I believe through FOIA.

I had the same thing happen when I had a sheep tag. Not sure how they got the info.

If this is true let's get our favorite local NASA computer specialist @wllm1313 on it. I bet he could sniff that list out like a hound tracking a lion.
True! I'd be curious to know what the state law is and who can request access. Maybe we want to start a business delivering burritos to hunt camps in those units or something?

Stumbled upon this while googling to see if MFWP had a liaison officer. 🤦‍♂️

Guess you get what you pay for when you elect a dude from Jersey.

“We decided the public needs to know why so many more nonresidents are showing up the Montana to hunt elk and deer,” Petritz said. “I called the licensing department and was told I would have to file a records request because that’s what they’ve been instructed to tell people. In years past, we’ve never had to do that.”

Petritz said he heard nothing for two months, even though he made calls and sent emails.

Montana’s open records law requires state agencies to provide requested information “in a timely manner.” “Timely” is not defined. Several requests made by different organizations over the past year indicate the Gianforte administration considers “timely” to be several months.

“I got so tired of it, I called (FWP Director) Hank Worsech myself. (Four) weeks ago, Hank told me he was going to get to the bottom of it. I am now three phone conversations into Hank,” Petritz said. “I’m just waiting on a very basic yes or no.”
