monsoons

No downpours here.
Light rain all day.
More today.

Overcast, like the coast.
Temps in 70/80's daytime.
Vegetation loving it
Elk too.

Deer tracks in my road when we went for a walk.
Cool.

I would be happy with a little light rain just to knock the dust down on the gravel roads.

Torrents of rain for a bit last night. Hoping for more up here, lots of vegetation but it is dry. Elk are apparently happy and well fed, but it is kind of strange to still be seeing spots on the calves this late.
No thunder or lightning last night, my boy York slept through the rain drumming on the roof. Which meant I got to sleep, too.
More scattered storms predicted for the next few days, we will take what we can get. Glad the hot weather is over.

Yeah I thought it was odd all the small bulls I saw the other day were in full velvet.
Most of these calves are spot free and large.
Elk feeding heavy along roads at night, more grass. Hard to see.
Sunflowers standing tall again.

Settle down , it's the only time outside winter it's not hot here. Generally.
This is our spring. NM is odd. SW in general.

Reminds me of why I did not travel farther east looking for a small slice of heaven.
No rivers to flood around the house. No skeeters. No nights sweating.

Here's one from last year. A record wet year here.

Just stepped out to get a couple things taken care of for the day. Car read 98. The wind felt like a blow dryer on high! Our daughter said it feels like "a hundred and fu@& you" outside. I concur.

Strangely in late Aug. here its green, usually pretty dried up at this time with grass dormant, not this year. And early this morning between 4am-8am we got dumped on with 3.1" at my place.

Hope we get lots of rain so this doesn't happen again.

This is the start of the Cameron Peak fire 2020 in Colorado.

Rain passed and it's 83 degrees. About 20 degrees cooler than yesterday but the humidity set in again like a wet blanket.

Couple of very nice thundershowers this afternoon, drenching rain. Poor old boy York hates it, but he sure enjoyed all the green and the water in the river on our hike this morning. We might be in for a week of real monsoonish stuff for the next week up here.

Been using the "Recent Imagery" feature on OnX to keep an eye on things in SW NM. Last week's imagery is finally starting to show the normally brown grasslands has turned a shade of light green

Heavy ones missing me.
Green showing on the plains and mesas, with 2foot dry from last year giving it the gold tint.
Gramma grass flowering on short legs below last years growth. 6-8 inches.
But it's THE feed here.
Bee plants all over in huge patches blooming.
Clouding up early today.
I coasted on the new road @ 20 and met the new neighbors. Nice folks.
Excellent work from the Mangas Const. folks, again.
Going to have them do my loop next year, when my train comes in...

Rio is dreaming of pizza and quiche from Pie-O-neer.
