Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (Dec. 1) - Two men have been arrested for dumping dirt in a national forest. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department said the men, who have not been publicly identified, were arrested at a garage in Coeur d'Alene where the dirt had been removed and the base apparently prepared for paving.
Deputy Robert Gomez said the U.S. Forest Service confirmed that it was illegal to dump anything, including dirt, on the federal land.
Gomez said he asked the two men about dumping dirt in the national forest ''and they went off on a tirade about Mother Earth.''
The deputy quoted the pair as saying they had taken ''perfectly good dirt'' from the garage area and dumped it under a big fir tree where they used rakes to spread the soil to make it look nice.
''They both said it was a good job having given back the dirt to Mother Earth,'' Gomez said.

I'm thinking possible infection by alien fungi. The wrong ones introduced, particularly in a conifer area where mycorrhizal relationships are vital could destroy a large area. Just ask the New Zealanders.

I don't know what the weed situation is like in ID, but it is a big deal in MT. Maybe there was not a problem in this case, but it is something to be aware of.

These guys seem to be suffering from the same problem as ATVers in regards to NF regulations...they dont know how to read.

I can't believe they'd go to the trouble of loading the dirt, hauling it, dumping it, and spreading it out. Why not just spread it out in the yard????? |oo |oo I'd bet they're ATVophobics that "bone out" their game too.......

BHR, dont worry, I think when you're buddies drop you off to hunt, they're not breaking any laws.... ;)

What do the regs say about leaving a big steaming pile in the N. F.?

In many areas, you have to carry it out..... Remember when you chose to spend your hard earned dollars recreating on a Wild and Scenic River in Idaho's Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area ( as opposed to vacationing on the slack water of the dams of the Lower Snake or enjoying your time sitting in Clear Cuts and slash piles???)

Buzz,

I just spit soda all over my monitor..... LMAO... :D

Personally I would have supposed there would have been a hundred places much closer to dump dirt in most cases.

Now i have to read on my map where i can leave a turd?... how about taking a leak? i hope i don`t have to buy a separate "potty" map. Now i have read alot of maps but i have not seen the [can`t shit in the woods regs!] this one is way over the top LMAO.

We have had guys busted here for dumping leaves they raked from their yards in the woods. There defense leaves are leaves, whats the difference? Difference is the trees didin back a one ton truck thru the woods to drop theirs.

Though it does sound "weird" what Mo says packs a lot of punch in some area of the Western U.S. as well. When I worked on the Gold Beach (OR) RD
in the early 80's the Port Orford cedar was being hit hard by a root born disease (Phytophthora lateralis) and they went as far as parking a water rig and having us hose down the tires of the trucks when we were leaving an area known to be infected....

Dirt's kinda like the dark....it's what in it thats scarey  ;)

CJ,
Just how long has it been since you have actually been in a Forest??? There are Forests in AZ that require you to pack out human waste. Just as there are in Idaho and Oregon, and many other places.

Gunner i think i left you a present last month in unit 27 [az] i guess you take a shit and i leave a shit...or how about i don`t give a shit....your too much..LMAO.

Gunner you can pack your shit...if you want but old CJ aint never going that route...you might want to take this to the adult section....they can throw me in jail before i have my shit packed. Yes i am full of it..True. LOL

Best not be looking into any rafting trips or enjoying the slickrock in So. UT or even the Grand Staircase Monument then cjcj as a few of those require you to pack out your waste.
