Maven, Leupold, Trijicon, NF

I was down to NF and Maven. I went with Maven because I felt it was a better reticle. The more I use the RS1.2 the more I believe I made the absolute right choice.

Do you want FFP or SFP? The Leupy VX5 is SFP. If you are long range shooting and want to hold for wind I would think you’d want a FFP scope.

I pretty much keep all my scopes on 6ish power when I hunt. Even still hunting whitetail in the timber. At 6x the FFP is very useable and the Maven has illumination if you wish to use it. I did this year right at first light and found it helpful.

I wanted to like the Trijicon tree but it’s way too busy.

Objective diameter is important as it relates to exit pupil. Your eye cannot utilize more than 7mm of exit pupil (this gets less as you age) so in reality an exit pupil of more than 5-6 is wasted. At 10x a 44mm objective lense gives you an exit pupil of 4.4.

Yikes... 300 to 500 range, 700 yards the longest. I'm starting to think I really suck. My limit is 325, and I shoot every week.

Yeah it's kinda crazy. I was a precision shooting instructor for years and have fired many thousands of rounds over 500 yards, and I still am not good enough to shoot that far at an animal.

Almost like the influencers have convinced people they need to shoot half a mile (and blow the associated fortune to buy all the LR gear from their sponsors™) to fill tags.

I’ve come to see that in many cases, the more and better people shoot, the more they understand the limitations..

Whole lotta people talking about 500-1000 yards these days that have at most done it on a square range where they can walk rounds in from prone or a bench and then they just remember that they ended up hitting the target a bunch of times in the end rather than where the first shot landed.
Spot on

These are the two I considered the most when I was shopping this summer. I went with the maven as I could get it a lot cheaper. Very happy with it so far

I just couldn’t give NF money due to the unapologetic support they give muley freak despite all his poaching
I want to hear more about it. I have seen muley freak on youtube making tons of unethical long range shots. I am not against long range hunting, but they clearly can`t shoot

No experience with Maven, so my preference from your list would be Trijicon, Nightforce, and then Leupold in that order. Leupold is not an option for me on any new optics, they are not the same company or product that their reputation was built on and trusted, so I'm slowly phasing all newer "L" optics out of my life.
Not on your list, buy I'd recommend you take a look at the Ziess conquest series as a contender. I feel like the V4 is an awesome value for the quality .
I cannot think of one negative thing to say about trijicon products or their CS.

New guy to forum here… I just sold my VX Freedom 3x9x50… I have BX4 pro guide binos and could glass up a deer easy in low light with them, but would go to put my scope on them and the difference was so stark a couple times I couldn’t take an ethical shot. So upgrading scope this year. Thinking I will go with VX3HD. Can yall offer any suggestions for an $700-$800 scope to match my bino clarity. I don’t think VX5 type optic is in the budget or I would just do that.

I can't say enough good things about the Zeiss V4 series. They are quite an upgrade from Leupold and i havent had one fail yet. If you check out Red Hawk Rifles website, they are always having sales on them. Buy the "demo" optics with confidence, some of the Zeiss "demo" I recieved from them were still wrapped in factory cellophane. All are in the factory boxes and I can't tell that they've ever been handled or even out of the package. Here's a couple samples. Screenshot_20250115_090452.jpgScreenshot_20250115_090422.jpg

I have different scopes from all 4 brands you have listed.

I’ve moved away from Leupold, and will likely sell the one NF I have at some point and will never purchase from them again due to their association with MuleyFreak.

After only a short time I really like the Trijicon Creedo I own, but haven’t had it long - so no real feedback other than initial thoughts.

I am continually impressed with my Maven RS1.2 2.5x15. Great glass, I really like the reticle, and it’s rock solid. Ultimate test will come this weekend when I shoot. I took a couple tumbles packing out my elk on a bad wheel and if it held zero through it I likely will be buying another soon.
Any follow up on this? Narrowed down to RS1.2 or NX8

For what it is worth, I just bought a Trijicon TenMile over the Nightforce based on a very strong recommendation from a fellow member on here. Haven't mounted it on anything yet but early returns are promising. Will likely upgrade to a Trijicon Credo on another rifle some time this spring.

The recommendation to me from a friend who has used both, is the maven has a more useable hunting reticle.

4-5x is very useable with mine, even in low light.

My one knock on it, and @Hammsolo will agree, is the illumination does not turn off automatically. It’s pretty easy to leave it on and kill the battery. Also, some folks have complained of very dim illumination or too much and it bleeds out. I haven’t had any complaints with that.

Held zero like a champ. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

I was saving for another, but I just fell into a deal on a 10x SWFA, so that will get mixed in and. Trijicon Credo will be going where the 2nd Maven would have been mounted.

If you’re still thinking NF, let me know, I have a NXS that I could be talked out of pretty easily.
