The vast majority of private companies are closely held and while they may have external audits for some purposes the results of those audits are not public and many are not required to have audits. Based on numbers in 2024 87% of all companies with >100M of revenue are private.
Just because they are private does not mean they are not audited. Most banks require it for lending. Ask me how I know.

You are conflating process with transparency.
Uuum, no. The process ensures the transparency, on both sides of the equation.

We never kept records of what was provided. We fulfilled the requests to people or reporters.

That works, until it doesn’t. That’s why there are FOIA laws in the first place.

I remember Trump donated his salary to the NPS during his first term. I anticipate he will get a leader in place to make sure the NFS is run to achieve its purpose.
I hope the leader can swing a pulaski, mark timber, clear trail, etc. all by him or her self.

Leading shouldn't be much of a problem, nobody to supervise.

That is what I said in my post and the vast majority of private companies are not getting audits. Ask me how I know.
I know of plenty of private companies with 8 figure revenue and 7 to 8 figure debt or LOCs and they are not required to get financial statement audits. They also don't have non-owners on boards and owners typically have free reign over their comp. And even if they have a financial statement audit is much different and there is no transparency with outsiders or employees.

And most people have no idea what an "audit" actually is. Nobody is going through and double checking every check/expense and every deposit. Financial statement audits are not designed to find fraud and they are full of CYA language to be "materially correct".

I am ok with all of the above and I am only responding because your descriptions are very incorrect.

You realize private companies are audited annually. They also have a Board that oversees executive comp. A CEO cannot declare their own raise. But the truth does not make for a good story.

How did that nonprofit transparency work for the NRA?

I ask for basic information from my local city. They make me go through a freedom of information act just to stonewall.
And those audits are made public and criticized widely across Fox and Newsmax as part of a political strategy? Yea, I didn't think so. Besides, if a corporate CEO abuses his position, most Americans have been trained to just throw up their hands and declare "well, there's nothing we can do..." Decades of targeting public employees has worked, even though people are people no matter where they work.

I don’t see anyone getting blamed or being held accountable; it mostly just looks like a bunch of people at the bottom of the rung suddenly being out of work through no fault of their own
Exactly. This is neither surgical or in any way, accountable. It's a blunt force beating for political effect.

Ok. I guess experience is not the best teacher.

Irony of someone against a project that creates jobs in a post about people losing jobs.
Jobs are temporary....much of the oil would be shipped overseas....gas prices increase...Canadian oil barons benefit....what's not to love, right?

These cuts are going to impact the way NFS do business. I'd expect access to some areas being cut, campground closures, more gated roads, trails being shut down, etc. etc. If the fire season is bad, there's going to be a lot more acres going up in smoke as well.

The FS has been understaffed and underbudget for as long as I can remember. The division I work for has NEVER been fully staffed, we were bare bones prior to this.
This is what my post was all about. Some get it, a lot do not. Surprising for a public land hunting forum.

Funny, but on the other hand, not really. Big opening created for terrorists and foreign governments who would want to use them against the US...
So you are saying these US Government employees would seek jobs with terrorist? Your funny.

Where are the terrorist job boards posted?
