I only carry 3. I’ve only ever needed more 1 time in 30 years of muzzleloading. Coincidentally it was on an elk that wouldn’t drop as well.

Us eastern whitetail guys are used to one shot and it’s over with a muzzleloader.

Whether ML or any other firearm I always carry extra loads/rounds. My loading block holds 6 - 58cal prb or 6 - 50cal maxi balls depending on which rifle I carry. Plus a few more loose balls. Not much extra weight and my idea is a couple to many is better than one not enough. But that's just me.
