I posted on here a couple years ago about 3 children my wife and I adopted. Liam who was 4 months is now 6 years old. He has been asking to go hunting. Now that duck season is over and it is still goose season this was the perfect scenario. A local farmer lets me hunt his pond it is about 3 to 4 acres in size. I was able to just drive up to the spot, set everything out, set up and go park. Nothing too difficult for a six-year-old. After we got settled in the a- frame we killed one goose shortly after legal light. A little later about 30 geese landed too far from us but swam to the water's edge. Drake and I unloaded our 20 gauges on the flock and shot five. One was swimming away and got across the far side of the pond and walked out and began to walk up the hill and out of sight. While I was tending to the downed birds I sent my 12 year old around the pond with his 20 gauge to go find it. He found it hung up in a fence and finished it off and brought it back and it was banded of all things. I have hunted waterfowl around 20 years and never got a banded bird until this year and we get 2 in one season. Liam seem to really enjoy his first hunting adventure. Liam was taking it all in, the geese, the shooting, the dog retrieving, the cattle, etc. I can't help but think where this 6 year old little boy would be today if he had been left in the conditions he started life in. Hopefully many more hunts headed his way. We stopped by to visit with the farmer and the boys helped him feed.
