I was dumb enough to sell a rifle at 19 years old but was never dumb enough to sell that rack, or his previous 2 years of sheds and others.

Putting together a nice 243 setup is on my list for this year. I do reload so the tikka with a 1:8 barrel is tempting but I've also been eyeing an xbolt.

A 8 twist is definitely what I’d recommend. It opens up a lot of great options for heavy bullets and copper options in .243.

Yeah, there's an xbolt for $610 I'm eyeing though. Already threaded vs the tikka I'd have to get threaded based on the models I'm finding in stock. I'm fine shooting 95gr noslers.

Well let's see, is a 70gr 22 cal bullet any heavier than a 70gr 24 cal bullet? I don't think so but I do suspect the 243 will shoot it faster. What the 22 cal bullet has the 24 cal doesn't is probably a higher BC! Seem's to me that to reap anything out of the 22 cal bullet you have to be planning on shooting much longer ranges! Otherwise why not just use a 55gr 22 cal bullet? I think the plan with heavy 22 cal bullet's is to give people that like to shoot long range something to play with that must have a lot less recoil!

Wonder how far the 22 cal must fire the bullet to get advantage of the high BC? I suspect that a better idea would have been to make a bonded core 24 cal 70 gr bullet!

I bought what I thought was 307 Winchester loaded rounds that I was hoping to dump the powder and change the sizing to 356 win. Well that didn't work out so well. You can resize a 307W to 356W but not a 307W that has been resized to 243W. Too much stress even with annealing. Ok I thought, lets see what these are constructed with for components. 100gr flat based spitzers with 44 gr. H4350. Did not see any loads listed that hot in the manuals I have. The feller that had these was into creating falling block single shots which I believe can handle more pressure. Now I may be wrong but I think the 307W is a heavier(thicker) case and will handle a little more pressure. The thicker case would also limit the amount of powder and that would also increase pressure if I have this figured right. In the end I will dump the bullets, save the powder and reload them in a more sensible loading for a Rem 788.
