Let’s talk about the 243win

That would be such a good cheap rifle to have around. A fair bit of aftermarket support. Personally I’d like to see it lower priced given that the Gen2’s are out but maybe they’ll go lower in the next year.
An American in .243 is our deer camp loaner and has accounted for a small wagonload of first deer. I'd probably throw it in a Bell and Carlson stock (or, if I'm feeling really frisky, an MDT chassis) but overall should suit you well.

I’d be tempted to buy it as a youth/compact and upgrade the stock to a B&C. That way you have two stock lengths for various shooters.

With today’s new 6mms shooting heavy bullets is the 243win even relevant?

I think it is but it’s not talked about anymore it seems.

Recently picked up two tikka compacts in 243win for dirt cheap. Pulling the barrel on one and the other went to my wife. I have to say impressed with this rifle and cartridge.

I’ve got the 95gr partition load to 3150fps and the 55gr BTs going 3750fps out of a 20” barrel. It should put a hurting in deer and yotes.

Now to move on to monos.

What’s your thoughts?

I own two, including my most recent rifle purchase, a Howa 1500. You more often find the truth behind "less is more" as you get older.

I handled a Ruger American gen2 today. Momma kept telling me to buy it. Sure felt good. My son shoots a gen1 we put in a Magpul stock. It’s a nice rifle for the money. Wish I would of bought more for $199

Larry's Pistol and Pawn had .223 Gen 2 rifles on clearance for $425 in November. There was supposedly some type of blemishes on the stocks cerakote and they were advertised as factory blems. I ended up buying three of them and cannot find one blemish on any of them.....I kept one and put it in a Magpul stock, the other two I gave to my nephews. All three shoot way above their price point, I'm impressed.
