KHunter NM Pronghorn 2022

Congratulations on drawing a difficult tag in the land of the giants in New Mexico. Looks like you have seen quite a few pronghorn out there including some mid 70s, a wide 80+ and a wonky one. If it isn't the actual rut I have heard that buck decoys don't work so well. Good luck out there, I am sure that you will make the best of the one that will make his last mistake.
Hopefully I will be hunting pronghorn next fall, whether Wyoming or another state.

a day and a half to go..

Drove quite a ways yesterday looking lope in a new area where there is more rolling terrain. To no avail. Few animals but did see a herd of 19 bull elk with some real whoppers. Heat waves prevented a decent photo.

Another hunter sat my blind I have not sat yet. Only one buck within 250 yds. Been raining daily.

tried stalking a lone buck that simply vanished from a place did not think he could without being seen.

then stalk a group of 12 bucks, no does and got to 200 and 270 yds but they got wise to me in my bethedecoy getup and a doe decoy.

Angus had a three beer lunch AND ate both our pucky sandwiches that I made—and was sleeping in the truck during this round. 🤠

Time for another stalk tonight. gottta find another good set up. Fun but tough in this open/flat terrain.

Here you can see me on the right with most of the big herd of bucks I was stalking to the left. This was the 2nd time I stalked in on them within an hour. Had hunter interference at the critical moment as they were seeming to be willing to come in.

I didn’t realize that you actually wear a costume. What does the pronghorn say? LOL!

Long way to go for me and my backseat driver Angus….

Really he’s @Dinkshooter backseat driver and he’s just on loan to me for this hunt. Every year is one of these bowl amount of decoys so looking forward to seeing how badly they scare of the bucks or not. Have any hair comment suggestions for anybody who used these in the past

For the only the second time ever the antelope said hell yeah I want some of that. @abqbw got some of it on video but not drawing the bow when he came in close. story tomorrow or when I get time I’m beat.

I definitely respect you for bring out all of the tricks for spot and stalking, even if sitting water might be tempting at times even though most hate the Sweat Box.
I need to get my bow skills up to par and budget for such a fun yet difficult hunt. Especially since I want to hunt pronghorn in every state that I can DIY public land style or if I have to ask permission. That includes archery hunts along with the muzzleloader and rifle tags. Whichever gets me a tag the quickest.

Drove through there again yesterday and at least it's not in the 90's still. Got waved at by several guys glassing from trucks. Rio and I watched one stalk during a sammich break on the way home.
Very green and some impressive bucks out there. Some big bulls too. Lots of water.
I'll wave as I go by again today.
