Finally some good news

You are a much better shot than I am with open sights if that’s really the case (could certainly be true).

I practice a fair bit and there is no way I am good out to 200 with an iron sight muzzy, at least not good enough to reliably make a clean kill.
Same, I feel I am a pretty decent shot. I can't pull it off at 200 consistently enough. Coincidentally I don't shoot at animals with my compound over 30 either, 40 being max in absolute perfect conditions.

I killed alot of elk in my muzzelloader days from 150 to 200 did practice alot when that's all hunted with though wouldnt hesitate to shoot at 200 with a modern inline( compound or crossbow) flintlock(recurve) things change a bit

Nope there is a cow hunt that opens January 1

@cgasner1 might be a good idea to leave what you do on your own time off the forum

The same can be said for those that are so bothered by guys shooting crossbow
So I've given this a good bit of thought today. Maybe compound is a bigger jump from recurve than crossbows are from compounds. I certainly don't see it that way, but I don't claim to always be right and like to look at things from a different perspective. Even if that was the case, I don't think allowing crossbows for whoever wants one during archery season is a step in the right direction. Two wrongs (if you want to call them that) don't make a right. Arguing that crossbows aren't as bad because we don't like the broad use of compounds is an interesting position.

The argument isn’t even pertinent to this discussion because of arizonas definition of archery. Changing the definition of archery could be a new thread but I believe that horse might be dead from the flogging it has received over the years

We argue about pounding them during the rut but hunting them into winter is OK. Got it. mtmuley
Hope you get your stocking stuffed bud and have some holiday spirit. I pretty much quit rifle hunting due to that season
