Is it blown up?

These are people that you would think know what is actually going on not just speculation and media hype.
Your joking right? The far left. Pole those same people and you would loose your guns and hunting opportunities.

I trust your self assertion that you are a health care provider, but this reference proves you are not an epidemiologist. Comparing death rates between a disease with multi-year full population "saturation" to a disease that has been exposed to likely well under 1% of the population in the last few weeks is a completely useless comparison. The useful comparison hindsight will provide is the Influenza deaths in 19-20 compared to the COVID death in 20-21 or 21-22. The real question is what do we do between now and then? My view is to not over react while remaining watchful.

And for gods sake wash your hands and cover your mouth when you cough -- do we really need a death rate stat for this to be a thing?

As I stated in another thread. . . .

What do you call someone with the lowest GPA of their medical school graduating class?

Doctor

And what do you call the intake nurse, receptionist, etc. of that guy/gal? A healthcare provider.

Few things bug me more than the assertion that someone is an expert because they are a doctor, healthcare provider, etc. (see Dr. Oz). There is a reason that there are so many specialties, being an podiatrist (or a heart surgeon) doesn't qualify you to work as a pediatrician, or neurologist, etc.

I'm not talking about CNN I'm talking about all the universities. National guard being called in to new York but people aren't supposed to worry?

Hype? Absolutely. View attachment 130510

I've seen that picture posted a couple times now and it's always bugged more well cropped it is. Almost like, maybe someone wrote it in their living room and then added "Posted at a doctor's office today" to bring some form of validity. I also think the repeated "#coronavirus" is suspect. And why would a doctor be mentioning election years? I call BS on that being posted in a doctor's office.

snopes already disproved the "facts" and there is no evidence in the pic it is actually from a doctor's office

Your comments to the cv related threads have been less than useful. No one knows the future, and reasonable folks can definitely debate the different trajectories of this virus, but to continually throw out tinfoil-hat political bs has grown very weary. I may for the first time "block" a HT member from my thread.

Possibly the saddest thing about this whole situation, and this thread is just further evidence of it, is how far we have fallen as a society. Here again, we have a subject that it should be relatively easy, and for once important, to find trust worthy information about and you can't. Fake News all over the place.

Brings to mind a short bit from one of my favorites.

I wouldn't think we would have this discussion as we watch the flaming failure of socialist or communist health care on full display. Or while in this country we hope our for profit hospitals will handle it.

At first I chuckled at that article, but then did a little research. Apparently the Army developed the first vaccine for the common flu and gave it to soliders in WWII. Jonas Sauk, when he developed the polio vaccine, worked for the predecessor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (non-profit obviously). A lot of pharma discoveries come from Universities who are funded by grants from the Government or non-profits. Add those to things like the Manhattan project, semi conductors, and the internet that all had substantial government funding. I am a huge fan of capitalism but somehow we were conned into thinking it would solve every problem.

Just a suggestion, but I would take about 20% of the outrage in that post. It doesn't read well.

On April 12, 1955, the day the Salk vaccine was declared “safe, effective and potent,” legendary CBS newsman Edward R. Morrow interviewed its creator and asked who owned the patent. “Well, the people, I would say,” said Salk in light of the millions of charitable donations raised by the March of Dimes that funded the vaccine’s research and field testing. “There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?”

Things I know about Corona Virus or Covid 19 or the latest super duper virus that is going to kill us all.

1. I probably shouldn't be getting my information from a hunting website.

2. Buy all of the toilet paper. ALL OF IT!! I don't know why, but the people with the most toilet paper will survive.

3. Wash your hand for 20 to 30 seconds. If you need a way to time it you can sing "Its the end of the world as we know it" by R.E.M. to make sure you are washing long enough.

4. If you have family or loved one with underlying medical conditions please take every reasonable precaution and listen to your doctor's advice.

5. Limit your news consumption. Seriously, you will be happier and healthier.

6. I hope and pray we all stay healthy and put the brakes on the mass insanity.

Could you patent the sun?" The vaccine is calculated to be worth $7 billion had it been patented. However, lawyers from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis did look into the possibility of a patent, but ultimately determined that the vaccine was not a patentable invention because of prior art.

If you are in the top of your class, are you going to work for the army?

It's sounds so wonderful that there would be folks that would spend their lives energy in the advancement of others, but it's not true.

There is a reason most of the advances in medical research come out of the US. It's because that's where the market is.

It's amazing to me that people who did not want to sacrifice 8, 10, 12 years of their lives, and $100s of thousands of dollars to get in a position to make these vaccines, expect others who did to do it for what any other gov employee makes.

The last thing you do is announce a government takeover, when your desperate for a cure.

I hope the Army is successful. But I DO NOT want tgem to be the only game in town because the smartest guys are making ED cures because there is a lucrative market there.

My opinion is that if we were not in a heated election year we would not have this hysteria. Both sides want to get as many political points as they can before it fades on it's own.

I agree I don't want sole government control of something like this, but I think we need to be honest. The government has a role. I saw an article today that one of the private companies trying to make a vaccine is funding it with a government grant. So even when it looks like capitalism it isn't. I doubt there ia huge profit windfall in this vaccine. Do you want to be known as the company that has a vaccine but priced it out of reach of most people resulting in deaths? probably not.

Interesting fact Washington state has 281 cases and 24 deaths. There goes the 3 percent that keeps being thrown around. That's pushing closer to 10 percent.

One unfortunate occurrence the rise of the coronavirus has brought forth, is the discounting of the suffering of others to come, over and over again. It happens in the news, on social media, and on hunting forums - For political reasons, a strange form of signaling, or something else.

The disease may disproportionately affect the elderly, but so what? Does that make it easy to poo poo their sickness? The fellow I sit next to at work is a father of three in his 30s who has no bone marrow. They, cooked it in December in an effort to kill the cancer inside of him. He is immune-compromised, as are millions of others through no fault of their own.

Is it overblown to him? I think not.

Models which have been largely correct so far, forecast a future that sure, involves most people in the world getting on with their lives, but still an immense amount of suffering that would not have otherwise occurred.

At first it wasn’t clear what this was in terms of seriousness , but I think we know enough now that crassness is cruel.

To the OP, for the millions who will be affected by the ending of individual worlds or those that already have been, I do not think it is “blown up”.

WA has way more then 281 cases. At this point we're closer to China in under reporting cases. I know two people that called concerned that they had the virus and in both cases the health care entity told them to stay at home for 3 to 5 days and call back if their conditions deteriorated. The warned them not to come in, they would not be treated or see.

Thumbs up for our wonderful American health care system.

i have a suspicion that a healthcare system not able/ready/capable/designed to handle such an influx is not uniquely american
