I am contemplating bringing an ATV to mule deer hunt this fall in Colorado. Where I plan on hunting does have trails for this sporadically around the area, however, I still plan to park and hike in to limit noise production. The idea seems appealing to me, but I am not sure it is worth it to drag it along with me for the actual amount of usage it would get. Do you all bring them along?

Just depends on the trails in that area and how much you like your truck. Many roads marked open to all vehicles in the mvum should not be driven by stock vehicles.

I typically bring one unless I know the roads are good.

I left my Kawasaki Mule home last year instead of hauling it to Colorado. Huge mistake. It would have saved me 30 or more miles on my boots. I'll haul it this year if I draw.

Not only for hauling deer out of the woods but for firewood, a load of gravel, construction projects etc. etc.. . . . How I got along without my trusty Polaris side-by-side, I'll never know.

I've done many hunts where I brought my SxS and didn't really need it or even use it. I've also done a couple hunts where I really kicked myself for not having it. I've never kicked myself for having it with me. The extra cost in fuel hauling it there is worth every penny to me to have all options available when on the hunt even if it doesn't get used. You may not have that specific tag again or for a while anyways so I would want to have every option available if need be. Just my .02

I took mine on several DIY's but private land only. Sure made retrieving a couple of big ol cows & a bull easier. Common sense and courtesy is a real necessity....& I've not taken a machine to public.

Second to the comments on how much you value your truck and size of truck. I usually use my ATV, and on so many of the trails, I would not take my truck....but I meet people with trucks on them. And many times the trail is narrow enough I have to back up to find a spot to pull off with just a ATV footprint to let them by....I don't know what I would have done if our two trucks met head to head on those trails.

We bring a truck and an Atv. Having the Atv allows us to split up and go in separate directions a little easier. It also gets us further back in to the edge of the Wilderness where we begin to walk.
