Illegal Thermal Use

I probably have close to 200 coyotes killed with thermal. Ya I’ve used it some. Glassing that basin only works if there isn’t brush in the way. You aren’t seeing an elk standing behind a cedar tree with thermal
I've got less than half that coyote count with thermal, but at least double on pack rats. And depending on the model, you can see anything larger than a house cat through the brush. Field mice, flying bats, owls, commercial airliners, it's amazing what you can see.

One that doesn’t have leaves or needles. Sure

Solid hedges, no. I guess it's what the brush is like in your location. Sagebrush, mesquite, scrub oak, absolutely . Mine will pick up wood stud framing behind stucco ....

I’ve done some stud finding with mine when the knock test wasn’t giving me lots of confidence

Laugh all you want laker. I happen to know that for a fact as it’s something I have been working to put a stop to since before you owned one.

Edit: I have no issue with their use for predators or small game where deemed appropriate as supported by my participation in these activities

Idk if I'd agree. I guess It depends on what poaching were talking about.. night hunting? Guys killing something on someone elses property? If we're talking about night hunting majority of deer killed at night around here happens on a full moon. Might with snow on the ground. That's usually after season ends here. Montana and Illinois are two totally different hunting styles though so perhaps the poaching is as well.
Full moon is a popular time around here too and with our season structure we are guaranteed at least two and possibly four full moons during the season.

Same but we don't have the snow fall til after most seasons. Our season structure is different than yours I guess too. I think a lot has changed with cell cams now. Then again maybe a legal coyote hunter out with his thermal could report a night deer or elk hunter. So silver lining in everything I guess. The guys who poach on oppurtunity are probably definitely during season. But the worst offenders who habmve it down to an art I think is when nobody else is afield ie after season. Christmas morning or Christmas eve night is another time a lot of things go down that nobody would think twice about.

We could all be told to get rid of our center fire rifles and scopes and only use muzzleloaders and this place would bitch about someone using a pair of shooting sticks or that they aren’t using a long bow with stone points
I respectfully disagree thermals are a line way too far.

I don't think anyone here is complaining about the use of thermals. Just the potential misuse of them. mtmuley
