Idaho Bighorn

Looks like a heck of an adventure. Congrats!
Also, thanks for reminding me why I'll never apply for those early hunts. I'm just not man enough to do it.
I'm not sure I could scratch every other species off the calendar for a whole season to dedicate to that piece of rock with a river through it although the thought has crossed my mind ALOT. Thanks again for the reminder and congrats on being tough enough both mentally and physically to do it!

Thanks for the comments guys. It was an awesome hunt for sure. Now I need to draw a goat tag I guess!

Now that is cool. I think all of us dream of an adventure of that magnitude. Congrats!

Awesome story Chad.

You Aaron sure work well together...or at least follow in each others success.

That country looks nasty! Congrats buddy.

Hopefully we can catch up at one of the shows again this year.

Incredible adventure! Thanks for sharing, hopefully more stories like this to come to get me through to spring bear.

In my limited experience, in what I think was the same country you were in, the goats would be the easier of the two. Again, congrats on a great adventure.

Congrats Chad on a trophy of a lifetime. The memories built will forever be engraved into your life of stories! I was glad and more than happy to tag along on the awesome adventure... you did very well!!:D

Awesome, great hunt and perseverance. Glad it resulted in success.

Great sheep you got. it seems to always happen with animals that you finally see them when you are least expecting to, especially on a trip like that. Congrats again.

I might need to PM you about the river.

Finally got a chance to read this thread. What a great hunt. thanks for sharing the story and pics. I looked it over twice and then went back and looked again.

No other place has gotten into my head like the Bighorn Crags. I literally reflect on my time in there daily.

If only I could have a do-over on that big ram!

These are the memories that remain glowing in our minds even as we are gasping our last breath. Your trip navigating the river, the steep ridges, the danger, and then the moment that seals the deal. Congrats on an amazing journey few will understand much less attempt. It is not the size of the horns or antlers but rather the size of the effort with the amount of fair chase involved that yields a trophy. You rang the bell. No posse needed looking for your trophy then escorting you in for the sniper shot on a 180 class. I know I prefer the way you did it to how Denny puts a head on the wall. My 2 cents. Congrats.

That was one heck of an adventure. Congrats to you and much respect. That's some of the nastiest country in America for sure.

Excellent story, thanks for sharing, it takes me back. I did a sheep hunt in there in 2005, upriver of where you guys were. Even with horses and one of the best guides in there it took two trips and 14 total days to find rams, connect, and pack out. My sheep guide had to go on to another hunt before we found some rams, but fortunately I had one of their junior guides with me at the end and he was a big help and a strong packer. I consider that trip to be the hunt of my lifetime and don't expect to top it. It's the only guided hunt I've ever done, and I'm not wealthy but it was worth it. While it's a relatively easy tag to draw as far as lower 48 sheep tags go, don't even think about tackling the Middle Fork country for sheep unless you are in fantastic shape, have a lot of time and a dedicated buddy or guide, and are up for a full out adventure, with low odds of success.
