Talk to me about sheep habits and what to look for as far as locating them etc.

I've recently been invited to go sheep hunting in CO this fall. :D My buddy with the tag has never hunted sheep before, and I've only been on an unsucessfull unlimited hunt in MT about 6-7 years ago. I did find lots of sheep, just none in range or legal to shoot...

I asked some questions about bear hunting earlier this year, and it seemed like you guys knew what you were talking about. ;) now how bout some insight on sheep habits and tactics.

Very cool BS! What unit did your friend draw?
You may find some useful info on the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society webste. If I know anything about the unit, I'd be glad to pass along info.

During my hunt I kept falling for the 9-10AM bed. It seemed they always got up and moved before I could get on them(archery hunt maybe gun it won't matter). Then they would bed down again for a longer period which was helpful time wise but I wasted time and energy on the first sneak to a empty bed.

But no one should listen to me as I didn't punch a tag:(

If you can spot em, you'll find them no problem.

I've never seen a ram bed for more than an hour. Very frustrating when hunting solo.

This is what I'm looking for. How far will they move? Do they live in 'core' areas like a say a deer in late August early Sept and are faily predicable?

Seemed like when I hunted them the same bunches would hop from basin to basin and then make the circle back.

I'm sure we'll be able to spot them. The area is faily open and the majority of the sheep that have been killed in the area have been taken right at tree line.

Sucking on 11,000 foot air is going to be the hardest part I have a feeling. :)

bambi.

the rams i hunted usually bounced around between 3 bowls.

listen for them knocking heads in the mornings. more than a few times, i've heard them before seeing them
