If you're going off the shelf, Seekins by a long shot.

But I would propose a different path so you get the full custom experience... Tikka action (maybe snag that .308 that's for sale here already) send it to @p_ham and just set your budget and tell him to go crazy with it. He's an artist, let him be an artist. Or if you wanted to get all Lego with it - rebarrel it to 6/.284 (yes, 6 PRC is about the same, but if you're going to be different, be different), Altera Arms stock, UM Rings, Maven scope.

IDK anything about guns. So you gotta talk like I'm some city slicker. I have no idea what is even involved with a "build" be it custom or just modifying an existing rifle.

So, the more I think about it, what about just upgrading my tikka? I have a B&C stock that seems to be pretty good, at least a noticable improvement over the stock one. I could go with a better barrel, get it threaded, and put a light weight suppressor on it and still come out well ahead, right? Maybe upgrade the trigger too?

No need to upgrade your trigger. Adjust it down a bit.

Strongly consider the scope link I sent you.

A suppressor would be a nice addition. If you want to shoot to 600, you will be the limiting factor far more than the .270 chamber will be.

Love my topper.

Love my mountain bike.

Good thing about Tikkas is it is easy to change barrels. They manufacture to tight enough tolerances that you can swap barrels around and they should headspace correctly. Lots of factory take off barrels out there for $100ish.

I agree with @TheJason - you will be the limiting factor more than the cartridge given the ammo you have access to has sufficient precision to meet your needs and it doesn't cost or recoil enough that it limits the amount you'll shoot.

plenty of people on here who are more on top of this stuff than me, but for my taste a vertical grip and Arca rail are mandatory, I think I currently have a Mcmillan Game Warden LR but there's a lot of similar stuff out there, go wild and put a short 6CM barrel on with a suppressor, and invest in a really good scope, you'll be having such a good time watching your impacts that you will forget that you need a bigger rifle...

My son did exactly what you describe. He had a 270 win and bought a custom 280ai Tikka specific barrel. Barrel was threaded for a suppressor. He put the barrel on himself but you could pay a gunsmith to do it. It’s relatively simple if a 19 year old can do it. Can screws on easily. Tikka trigger is good. I can’t remember exact measurements for his groups but it shoots very well.

I have an old friend that cautioned me, "Adam you'll forget ammo, so stick with a cartridge you can pickup at an eastern Montana gas station". Hence the .270.

Whether you're starting from scratch, or modifying your current .270, you can't go wrong with step one being the Tikka. If you're going to go all in on your current .270, I don't think you need "a better barrel." Maybe just cut/thread it for your light weight suppressor, and no need to upgrade the trigger - Tikka triggers are about as good to go off the shelf as what's availble. Maybe get a $10 trigger spring if you want it lightened up past what the original will get you.

If you want a full custom, I'd still start with a Tikka action. Then its just down to preference on caliber, barrel length, etc. If you need/want suggestions, then we could all walk down that line.

Only absolute would be a Maven scope. Seriously, it's that good.

at a 1:10 twist I couldn't shoot those loooong ass hammers though, right?

You don’t need to shoot bullets that long for 6-700. I shoot 6.5 124 @ 3k FPS out that far. Look at a 130ish grain option.

Good for 1:10”. Push it fast, should hit 32-3300 easy.

No, scroll down just a touch and it's meant for a 1:8 twist.

But you really don't need the looooooooong ass hammers for 600 and in.

Just something people say a lot because someone else said it in the prior cartridge convo they had. Just dont forget ammo like you dont forget your boots, binos, rifle, tag, etc.

No, you couldn't and I wouldn't want to. You want monos to be fast.

I'd prob try 145 ELDx first but the 122 HHT would definitely be a better option from Hammer if you want to shoot monos.
