I got this Winchester High Wall earlier this year and wanted to get a deer with it. It is a scarce takedown high wall with double set triggers and chambered in 25-35 Winchester. It is in exceptional shape and quite accurate. I got this deer in a real bad snow storm and was able to get within 120 yards for the shot…

One of the great deer cartridges, really enjoy seeing your pics with the old guns.

That’s awesome! Few things better than hunting deer on a day like that! Congrats.

The 25-35 is an overlooked cartridge today, but it was the original fast twist when it came out in 1895. It had to have 1:8 to stabilize the longer 117 grain round nose bullet. The performance of the 117 grain round nose is more than adequate, and quite honestly is a better design for the cartridge, as it is not a long range cartridge at all.

I have had a 25-35 of one kind or another since I was a kid and have killed plenty of deer and antelope with it...

Nice I bet that old rifle has plenty of stories congratulations

Nothin better than hunting with the old rifles. My Remington Rolling Block is headed to the woods with me next week for deer.

Do you shoot any other bullets than the 117 gr, or is that many what you cycle through all your 25-35s?

That’s a good buck, and a great picture, Kirk. Congrats. Beautiful rifle as well.

117 gr is the only factory load you can find. I don't remember seeing any other projectile listed for it in reloading manuals either. I do not even know of any other .25 calibers with a 117gr. load.

Just found this thread.
What a beautiful high wall !
I always wanted one of those !
Not long ago, I picked up what I'm going to call a Frankenchester.
It's a Winchester 94 and the receiver dates to 1928, the wood and short mag tube likely original to it, but the barrel has been replaced with a much later model barrel.
I didn't catch the "truglo" rod on the front sight in the pictures, but it was assembled perfectly and refinished completely and with the compass embedded on the top of the buttstock, it actually matched a 1930 custom 94 carbine in 32-40 that I had picked up only a month earlier.
I likely overpaid, but I've been after something in 25-35 and it was so darned handsome, I had to have it... mostly because I found Hornady's Leverevolution in 25-35 hit the market so I bought four boxes before I even owned something to use them with.
It had both a rear sight and a tang mounted peep sight, and even with my 60 year old eyes, I was printing 1.5" groups at 100 yards... The best I've ever done with peep sights.
I fell in love with it and it's definitely coming into the woods with me.
The Hornady ammo is effective on whitetail farther than I will ever need to shoot it.
