I fly with mine in a Pelican 1750 with the ammo in the same case. I've never been charged extra fees doing it this way. I haven't found a need to try to hide the fact that I'm carrying a firearm in a case.

I have a Cabela's double gun all aluminum case but I prefer the golf cases. I'm not trying to hide my guns, I'm maximizing my carrying capacity. I can surround my guns with camping gear, kayak paddles, waders, etc. Lots of gear that I could never fit in a flat gun case.

10-4. I usually carry way more stuff than I need anyway. Lol. I like to leave space in my luggage for turkey breasts, tail feathers, feet and beards.
