Finally Own a 270 Winchester…….

I recently came into one of those old tv screen 3x9 weavers, I too was shocked what some vintage sellers thought they were worth

Can I copy your pictures @ismith and paste them in the dream rifle thread :) Beautiful work of art, I mean rifle, you have there.

Gunbroker is a good place to start looking, IF you know what to look for and are willing to take a chance. I paid 2/3 of what a Seekins Precision usually sells for on GB.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what do you mean by “willing to take a chance?”

Should I go with 130 grain Partitions/Accubonds @ 3100 fps as a standard load? Anyone still use this antediluvian chambering? Is it ok to buy the fixed 4x or do I need something more telescopic?
Only ever had one 270, bought it for the rifle. H&R Ultra 300 with an L61 Sako action. Beautiful rifle. Never gave any though to 130gr bullets. Something I realized over the years is a lot of people use to light a bullet for the velocity and I don't find bullet's doing to much damage much good. I started out wwith the 140gr bullet and if it didn't suit me would have gone to 150gr. Rifle got stolen before I ever hunted with it though. Miss the rifle, it was beautiful but never missed the 270. in my 6.5 cartridges I use 140grbullet's mostly and they work fine. In my old 7mm's I used 150gr and 160gr bullet's, just right. in 7mm, 140s had a habit of getting a bit sloppy, to fragile for me. If I were to get another 270 I think I'd go the 150gr bullets. Something I think about bullets, they can't be to heavy but can definitely be to light.
