Favorite EDC...what'cha got

Uhh, no, I reach in my pocket with my ONE hand and poke my finger tip with a barely open blade sometimes when the blade faces up…

You don’t look at it before you buy it?
And what’s having it face up in your pocket have to do with flicking it open?
You need a different knife man. I’ve never gotten poked by a knife in my pocket.

It’s all about efficiency. Single movement, knife comes out of the pocket and open almost immediately after coming out of the pocket.

I guess some of that is using a knife as a means of self defense in addition to just a cutting tool.

Same as carrying a concealed carry gun on an empty chamber. To each their own though. I will carry my gun with one in the chamber and knife ready to deploy with hopes that I never need to.

I only buy knives that don’t open/store the wrong way. Nobody ever said, “make sure the blade is facing you!”

I completely agree, and I think I’ve had more experience pulling knives out and immediately opening them when they face one way over the other way. Definitely to each’s own. I’m not knocking anyone’s preferences, just stating MY PREFERENCE. I think the concealed carry with an empty gun is a topic worthy of conversation too, for a different thread and time.

Start one...we can debate the paperweight misnomer ;)

Wouldn’t the whole clip orientation thing be highly dependent on whether you are left or right handed? Or more accurately, whether you carry the knife in your left or right pocket?

Ya know, I never thought of that. But even if you switched the knife to the other side, the blade is still pointing out of your pocket… so that wouldn’t change anything

Oh. So your issue is more whether the blade tip is pointed up or down. Gotcha. I prefer it pointing up so I can pull the knife out and open it in one motion.

Out of curiosity, which way do you have the toilet paper feeding off the roll? There is only ONE right way!

I can open it in one motion too??? Do we need a knife quick draw competition here is that what’s happening now? It’s preference. It’s wrong way for my preference. Toilet paper faces you, not back by the wall

No need to compensate. One hand open, super light and easy. Fish gutter and box knife. If I'm expecting a knife fight then I carry a P12-45.

This does not mean that I don't have larger folders in every vehicle we own. I had to stop putting automatics in the rigs because we are in Washington State too much.

But which side is your clip on?

Empty chamber… why even carry ammo if you need to rack it in addition to safety if the pistol has a safety? If it’s a revolver without a transfer bar, I get that concern. My line of thinking:
1. Person has justified a reason to carry a gun on their person.
2. Person understands the gun is not for brandishing.
3. Person has emotional control and then through no provocation of their own sincerely believes loss of life is imminent (their own or someone else).
So wtf would they want to add unnecessary steps upon presentation of said gun?

Anticipation of getting pulled over in Florida.

Some combination of these. If I’m being more practical, the bugout is a phenomenal knife. The claymore is pretty damn cool though, and it’s very slim and light for being such a serious knife. You can barely tell I have it in my pocket.

Then there’s the 43X, because it’s slim, light, easy to shoot, and 16 Federal HSTs makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
