Elk .... Let's see them!!!

Nice job with the old smoke pole!
Thanks, the hawken can make the easiest hunt a challenge and that makes it fun! I spotted herd bedded in some rocks couple miles away, great spot to sneak in on them. Got wind right and put move on mid-day, crawled over top hill they were bedded on. Slid muzzle over bolder with a spike just few feet away, entire herd (30ish head) were under 40 yards away. Absolutely one of most amazing stalks i have done ever.

Beautiful animals. I gotta ask, what do you do with all the meat? Big family, lots of needy friends?
Lots of family to share with and plenty of people that want some if there's extra.
I have 3 sons and a daughter, who have blessed us with 9 grandkids with another one on the way. They can eat a lot of game meat. We eat game meat pretty much every day and very rarely buy meat from the store. It makes a great reason to keep hunting as much as I do; not that it's cost effective, but it is a great bonus!

I can eat one elk with a 10 and 7 year old in probably 5-6 months

Usually don’t get two a year- honestly lucky to get one a year, so many whitetail for this household to compensate.
Yes, typically we can go through an elk, a couple deer and a couple bears in a year. My kids are always ready to take it off our hands if we have extra. We love game meat though!

School Pot-lucks. Not sure if was legal, but wife used to always get asked to provide that tasty taco meat for school cinco de mayo celebrations for each of our three kids classes (2 classes per grade). Learned over the years to move from elk to MD to speed goats. The kids loved it all the same. Back when you could do the ole wyo trophy doe antelope hunt and get 2 does along with your buck, I bet the school would eat one burgered doe less the loins per year!
