Dream Rifle

I’ve never owned a lever gun. Sometime I need to remedy that, maybe 32 special.

And since the first rifle I bought was an ancient, shotout 7x57, I think a series of rifles directly based on that case would be excellent. 7x57, 257 Roberts, 6mm Remington. Either model 70’s, cause that’s what my dad shot, or single shots, maybe Dakota actions all case hardened.

I know it’s only money, and you can’t take it with you, but it’s only stuff, and you can’t take that, either.

Man, I used to have a list of dream rifles. Now I just want to get away from my Savages and into something else.

I suppose a dream rifle for me is an M1 Garand. I’ll have one at some point, but doesn’t fall into the hunting rifle category.
It makes a fine hunting rifle if you know its limitations and can load up some Garand friendly hunting ammo for it. I killed two bucks with one I had, the first with military ball ammo, the second with a Nosler Accubond.

Next on the list is an O’Connor, then god only knows. Maybe I’ll deep dive off into break action shotguns, maybe I’ll start chasing a Rosevelt (M95 in .405), maybe it’ll be a thermal set up for coyotes.

I like guns. My boys will collect their inheritance in firearms.
Here you go. Some fancy shop around Kalispell has (or had about a year ago, anyway) actual O'Connor-owned rifles plus tons of other high-end stuff; someone from that area will likely know the name as I don't recall it.

I still want a falling block if I run across a beat-up No. 1 I can send to our favorite gunsmith. Some caliber I already load for; .223, .204, 25.06. Never got one because of accuracy concerns off the shelf.

I have two that very well could have been held by O’Connor, that I got out of the Huntington Store museum auction. One was stocked by Lenard Brownell and the other by Tom Shelhamer.

I pretty much own all my dream rifles but wouldn’t mind owning some history. Lever action win, sharps, old wood stock bolt action, idk.. Gatling gun would be cool but not sure I would enjoy loading a pile of straight wall cartridges.
