Draft Thoughts

As a Browns fan I'm usually pretty bitter after the first round, but I gotta say I'm not all that bitter this morning. I kept saying, please don't take Johnny Football, but it seems like all the analysts think it was a pretty good pick. I think their first pick was a good one and the defense should be pretty hot this year. So.......I'm gonna go with what the analysts are saying and let myself think that the Browns will actually play some good ball this year. I know in the end that I'm gonna be disappointed, but for now........I'll take it.

Just out of curiosity, since I don't follow the Browns other than I'm an OSU fan so I was rooting for Weeden, is there something you feel Manziel has that McCoy and Weeden didn't have that will make him more successful in Cleveland?

Jerry will find a way to get Manziel but only after he becomes another teams problem. Kinda relieved the Cowboys passed. I was hoping for a defensive player. Lord knows they need some. mtmuley

I can't wait to watch Johnny Football get his ### handed to him by a NFL sized linebacker personally. Think his ego needs to get knocked down a notch or two.

Johnny football is everything colt and weeded are not. He absolutely torched the SEC as a freshman and sophomore. Success in the NFL is never a sure thing but my thought is its the best chance at being competitive the browns have had in 30 years.

I am so glad the Vikings did not take a QB with their first pick. Whew. But, I think they will regret not taking the best inside linebacker in the draft, C.J. Mosely from Alabama. The guy was sitting there when the Vikes had their first pick and they passed for a guy "with a lot of upside." Last time I looked, upside didn't win games, current talent made tackles, blocked opponents, and scored points.

Oh well, I am giving the new coach the benefit of the doubt. He comes with a track record of coaching defenses to a high level. He knows talent better than any of us fans, so he probaby did the right thing.

Bridgewater with pick #32. Still not sure what to make of that one. Evidently Norv Turner had him high enough on his list to go out and make a trade to get the last pick of the first round.

Now, the Vikings better get a left guard. Heck, maybe even a right guard. Another safety, and some more linebacker help are high on the list. If I was the Vikes, all my remaining six picks would be in the position of gaurd, safety, and linebacker, and maybe even cornerback if one caught their eye.

I think Manziel ended up in the perfect situation for him. Dropping like he did made it a safer pick for Cleveland and puts a chip on Manziel's shoulder. He will be interesting to watch, but the defenses he will face twice a year in Cinci, Pitt, and Baltimore are not the SEC. I do worry that the guy will get himself hurt with his style of play, in a division like he will be in at Cleveland.

Clowney has bust written all over him. I might be wrong and I hope I am wrong. His best fortune is that he will line up on the same D-line as JJ Watt.

From here on out, I enjoy watching, as these later round picks tell you where the coaches think their team is the weakest. It switches from "pick the best player on the board" to "pick for need." Unfortunately, my team has a lot of need.

Not at all, like I said, I didn't want him, if they were gonna take a QB I was hoping for Bortles or Carr. I'm still hoping Brian Hoyer's knee looks good and they give him the opportunity to keep winning like he was doing before the ACL injury. One thing I do feel confident about is that all the Browns really need is a decent QB and I think they have a pretty good chance at winning a lot more games. It is what it is with Manziel, who knows, I could be wrong and the kid may make a difference.

Cleveland is a wasteland for players and coaches. Nobody has been successful there. Weeden and McCoy are both quality players that fell into the trap. Manziel is the next victim.

My thoughts exactly. But I couldn't say that without sounding like a homer OSU fan. Not sure where McCoy is right now and Weeden is in a bad spot to get playing time behind Jerry's golden boy Romo but I guess time will tell. Romo gets hurt pretty regular so maybe Weeden will get the opportunity to prove himself. I hope he makes the best if it before he qualifies for a SS check.

I think it's good ol Johnny football waited til the 23rd pick to go might have humbled him a little bit

No need for the draft.... My son just enlisted in the US Marines. He decided not to go back to college, not to serve a church mission.

Ships out to boot camp in October.

IMO, the finest young man the Marines have had since the draft.

As for the NFL draft, I lose interest after college ball.

Nothing wrong with being an OSU homer.:D

I do hope Weeden gets some playing time in Dallas. Watching Weeden and Dez work together again would be fun.

I actually think it is pretty funny how kids from OU and OSU carry Dallas these days.

I'm real excited about Sammy Watkins going to Buffalo, but I don't like giving up next year's 1st rd pick for him. Maybe they can package stevie Johnson and get a 1st rounder for next year.

The rams impressed me also. they made their O and D lines stronger in what is already the nastiest division in football.

I don't know about bridgewater in Minnesota......no more dome. outdoors in minn, Chicago, and green bay. He's definitely going to have to wear his gloves again.

Judging by his reaction when he was announced by flashing his "show me the money" gestures I'm going to say it didn't. I'm ready to see him put in his place.

I think it was a good move by Dallas. They took the top guy on "Their" board not "The" board.

It is funny the Johnny Football hype going on around here. Heck my daughters Cheer coach told me she though Jerry would trade up to get him.

R.I.P. Johnny Football. . .welcome to the Browns (or what we like to call the QB graveyard!!)
with his style of play and the way he wags the ball around. . .he will get punished. I hope he suprises everyone, but, my money is on a very short NFL career. Just my 2 cents.
Jerry Jones doesn't need another pretty boy that doesn't produce. . .he's already got that! LOL

Chiefs fan. Like many of you, am apprehensive when my team is "on the clock" in the first few rounds. I cross my fingers our pick will not have an ESPN 30 for 30 episode as the Biggest Draft Bust of 20xx.
