Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Doubt this will impact agencies...

Nope. The entire department of education? Cutting the whole program and every person in it? 4% of the federal budget.

"Permanently extending the Trump tax cuts would cost $400 billion per year and give the largest tax cut to extremely rich households".

Wow I've never heard that before from both parties every other week. If you start the opinion piece off with such generics like that it really draws me in!

I enjoy how this thread turned into a WFH or RTO debate, which completely misses the point. The lawyers will have fun with that.

As has been pointed out...
1) In a Voluntary RIF, the people that quit are never the lazy slackers. They are the people most able to find another job or closest to retirement. Say goodbye to knowledge and efficiency.
2) Having gone through a couple of these in the corporate world, the positions are typically refilled in 24 months. I doubt this will be much different.
3) the entire point of this is the $100B cost saving estimate. They need to find budget reductions in order to make 2017 tax cuts permanent. I would guess once those are permanent, the hiring will restart (hence the 8months time frame). In the end, if we are lucky it will be net to $0. Like most political/government actions, I figure it will most likely it will cost taxpayers.
So for 24 months the slackers will be responsible for all the work done by those who left, in addition to their own slacking? Then new hires will have the sole qualification of willingness to sign the loyalty oath, ergo stupidity. Crystal ball says recent slow, inefficient gov't will be replaced by blindingly corrupt gov't staffed by sycophantic entry level probation period cannon fodder. Astronomical costs of constant turnover, gaping causeways for corruption. If you wonder how federal gov't could be any less efficient or more crooked, the answers are forthcoming.

Good summary. That is where we are headed. I try to be optimistic that the Founders set this whole thing up to make it hard to tear apart. Optimistic but not sure.

Stupidity, corrupt, sycophantic, astronomical costs, turnover....sounds like a good description of the government for the last 75 years.
Parody by exaggeration is not sound government policy.

If this was about increasing efficiency and service I’d be on board, provided it was done within the confines of policy, law, and CBA.

I see this as a vehicle to fund tax cuts at the expense of federal agencies, and providing justification for eliminating some said agencies.

I’m not directly affected by this, but many of us will be indirectly affected very soon.
Taxes are in place to fund the federal agencies/programs, so if you reduce spending on federal agencies it would make sense to reduce taxes.

I agree, and I thinks it's kinda unsettling when the status quo doesn't prevail like right now. But hell it's worth a shot to me. There is processes, a house, and senate that will hopefully have the sense enough to reverse course if things get to western. I have faith that our republic was founded and designed in a way that we will be fine if these things start to fail miserably. I also have faith that they won't end miserably. I also admit that might be stupid of me.
