Dogs are Hunting Partners - Let's see 'em

My first dog, his first retrieve on a bird, and last retrieve on a bumper his last summer still swimming at about 16.5 years old, a few months later was his last. Good old dog. Had several thousand retrieves on ducks and a couple hundred retrieves on honkers. The best dog is a dog that is as stubborn as you are to really open your eyes.

Lost this guy a couple of years ago. He was a pure bred Alaskan husky mutt. He sure did love to hunt grouse.

He had a partner who was more along for the walk

SANY1057.jpg Kate and Patch with long tail on point together. Kate was 13 in this pitcher and had one more season before being called home.

Revisiting this thread brought tears to my eyes this morning. Love seeing these pictures.

This is Nyssa and she is 16 weeks old. So far she's hunted with me for huns, blues, pheasant and rabbits. She's wound up as hell and very smart. I'm finding it much more difficult to train a pup with 3 kids in the house - there's a lack of consistency and control. But we'll get there.

She knows I can't catch her if she decides that's the state of affairs she wants to create. :)

Great looking dogs! Sorry everybody, not real motivated to do much at work so I am playing around. These are my mutts. The black one is a heck of a mouser. She is best buddies with the cat who thinks he is a dog, so they learn from each other I think. The yellow one is kindof a handful who switches from sweetheart to ornery son of a gun midstride. Not hunting dogs, but buddies for sure.

Sayner and Tank at the House.jpg

The chocolate lab in the photo is a new addition. His name is Tank, which is fitting because he is a big boy. He needs to lose quit a bit of weight. His family moved away and long story short I ended up with him. Now my black lab has a buddy when I am gone at work all day

I've been lucky to grow up with dogs on the ranch. As a Kid, my dad had a line of english pointers that originated with Buck who he got in Ft. Benning Georgia just before he shipped out to vietnam

And now I'm going to get a Step dog. By July of this year, Bogey the black lab is going to join his human as they move 800 miles to be with me.
