Dire Wolf Returns

I'm not sure they got very close on this one

Super interesting article. I love this stuff as a science nerd. It’s the old generalist versus specialist story. Why do coyotes kick a$$? They’re super generalists that adapt easily to damn near any situation. It could be hunting poodles in a neighborhood or eating rose hips on the Palouse in Washington. Why did dire “bot-woofs” die off? They were super specialists in a pretty kind environment. They were masters at hunting megafauna in California.

Science of editing DNA would be awesome if done right, eliminate disease and birth defects. However, every zombie sci fi movie starts like that, which we remind our son of at every chance as his field is biotech

We’re learning that it’s not as simple as we hoped. We had a goofy vision that flipping 1 of 46 little switches would only change one trait. Now we have layered in epigenetics and it has gotten quite exciting/complicated.

I’d rather they learn how to make bighorn sheep that aren’t susceptible to disease die offs. That would be kinda cool.
Like this?

I’m sure everyone saw this. How do you feel about it? They say they are working on bringing the wooly mammoth back too.
