Deer - lets see em

Colorado Unit 60, first elk hunt. Able to make it happen opening day. My dad and I were just coming into a new area after first day of scouting and saw a bull coming into a irrigated field. Next day we set up on the other side of the canyon were public and private meet, saw a handful of cows and rag horns. Opening morning we were high above the bulls, waiting to for the right moment to make a move. We ended up having to wait out the handful of local hunters to clear out and push them to secluded area where we could sneak up to. That afternoon I was able to close the distance and make good shot that dropped him where we stood. Found this brute in a group of 4 pts.

Awesome bull! I am headed to Unit 60 for my second elk hunt October 16th! Could only hope and pray to get something like this!

It was 105 degrees Saturday but I was fortunate to harvest his guy on opening day of A zone rifle season in California. He was in a group of 3 bucks I spotted from a long way off. I made a sneak to 150 yards and thought I was shooting a bigger 3x3 that was in the group, but they had switched places. It was a fun hunt regardless, nice to have more meat in the freezer.

Just finished going through my trail camera pics from the card I pulled this weekend and had to share these cropped screencaps. This is the most unique animal I have ever gotten on camera. 4x6 or 6x6 depending on how you want to count his irregularities. Unfortunately the last pic of him was the first week of August, so I don't have a lot of hope for relocating him....but regardless I am thrilled to be hunting where he once walked, and hopefully will again.20210829_220243.jpg20210829_220214.jpg20210829_220133.jpg

That would be a D-16 giant!

My first deer circa 1996 I miss the red and black lumberjack. I did get my fathers green wool pants when he passed. That was one of my favorite trips of all time just me and my pops. (which was rare with three siblings) None of them wanted to hunt until we brought this gal home.

Nice deer, guys. I've never actually killed a buck of my very own, but I had this one hanging on my wall for a long time, and just pretended it was mine. Then I got hard up for some Friday money and sold it. Please ignore the cool porn 'stache and sweet shades.

I hope I can get my first buck this weekend.....
