Deer - lets see em

These two bucks were taken 24 hours apart in the same GMU in CO. One looks like a mountain hunt and the other looks like a desert hunt. Good times.

First season WA (the infamous "High Buck Hunt"). I've been hunting this spot for 5 years and was STOKED to finally get an animal, much less such a great one. This was along the crest of the central Cascades where muley and blacktail genetics are pretty well mixed, so this is a super nice deer for the area.

My son and I both took Washington mule deer bucks during the past few days:

He took this young 2x3 after stalking it to 137 yards. Used a 1970's 6mm Remington 700 BDL, with handloaded 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. I was right there with him, and it was terrific to watch him carefully close the distance then take his buck.

A day later I took this 3x3 at 350 yards with my 30-06 Remington 700 CDL and a 6x scope. I'd handloaded 180 grain Berger "Elite Hunter" bullets for this hunt.

It was a mighty fine hunt with my son. :)

Great picture!
Thank you so much! One of the best hunting photos I've been associated with. Mother nature sure made this one a beauty. Not many days this calm and sunny in the fall on Kodiak Island. It was postcard perfect weather for the first two days.

First thing I thought was that you should get that photo framed. It is fantastic.

Howdy. Dang. Ya'll are making me hungry for some backstrap steaks and I have a meat crisis here. It's a couple of weeks before S.TX whitetail rifle season opens. I'll probably miss the opener, but a week later I will be hunting over some harvested peanut fields looking for Mr. Muy Grande down here.
