Deer Hunting in MI

I’m a big fan of Super Warmer hand warmers, but of course I forgot one today.

I’m up to one twig snap and a distant turkey cluck so far. Not too promising.View attachment 349316
Neighbors just shot one here. I about jumped out of the tree stand it was so close 😂. Otherwise just gray and red squirrels to keep me entertained. My wife is bringing the kids for a mid morning sit! That should be entertaining.

Lol I read that as a “mid morning shit” and wondered why the kids needed to be there 😂

The text thread has devolved into:
A. Making fun of my dad for going in too early
B. Yelling at each other about pushing deer towards each other
C. My husband armchair quarterbacking about possible use of cow calls
D. Lies about spotting deer swimming across the lake
E. Angry demands about not cooking the bacon too early

10 minutes in the blind and wouldn't you know, the 5 year old is ready for her "mid-morning shit!" 😂

Welp yesterday afternoon stuff happened. Around 330 my dad sent a ping about a giant doe strolling towards me and my SBIL (step bro in law). Neither of us saw the doe but we were on high alert. I was losing hands of phone euchre and intently staring at the same patch of grass I’ve been staring at for two days when I heard a boom around 505 that had to be either SBIL or my dad. Dad confirmed it wasn’t him.

Sure enough I hear SBIL climbing out of his tree stand to which I was frantically texting to waaaait so the animal could have 30min to die. Stepmom then told us to check the trail cams and that deer was dropped. Ended up being a small doe but a first which is always exciting!

Anyway, you know whats next. Gutting (everyone was impressed with the havalon), a late dinner (my husband didn’t hunt and served up our elk tenderloin from last week - side by side with the venison TL that was surprisingly overly chewy?), and now we’re all still in our blinds this morning waiting for the mythical 10pt to walk past.

No pics because they’re not mine to share but cool to do this with the family.

Despite the action the trail cams still caught animals last night including one by my blind in the middle of us gutting.
