I was going through some old photos and found a couple from the early 90's. I forgot about this deer I found while I was hunting. I dont know what happened. Maybe someone or something chased him into the fence and this is how he ended up. I went back a week later and someone had sawed off his horns. Go figure.

The things you see while your out and about.

Life is cruel and that's too bad. The vertical wire they use sometimes that screws down around each strand to tighten and keep the main wires tight got him! Too bad he didn't jump over instead of trying to go through the middle area. Usually they will jump or try to go below the lowest strand and I don't think I've ever seen a deer get hung up doing what he did.

I'll be honest, this looks suspicious. Not saying it didn't happen...I'm just suspicious. I've never seen a mature deer go throught the middle of a fence. It doesn't look like he struggled which he most certainly have done. BUT judging from the condition of the fence in the second picture, maintenance was very lacking and the wires had to have been very loose.

I'd be willing to guess that either he was chased into the fence or he was killed in an accident and placed in the fence. Either way not a pretty end to an otherwise healthy looking buck.

Actually, the one tine looks like it has been worn and broken during a struggle.

If somebody staged it, they went through a lot of trouble. The horns were stuck in the stay of the fence and were broke off. I know I couldnt pull it off the fence.

Dont remember if there was any road rash.
Cant remember, it was quite a few years ago and was in my drinking days.

Years back I found a whitetail doe stuck in a fence very much alive. While jumping over the fence her back leg got in between the top wire and the next wire down. She must have some how jumped around inbetween the wires because they were wrapped around her leg like a turnecut about 4 times. Here leg was worn to the bone and she had no way of getting out.It was hunting season and I was hunting when I found her and I had a doe tag so I took her out of mysery.I had to cut her leg off to get her out.

Spacing on top and bottom wires help many critters...mellons on bottom and legs on top.

In my opinion, that fence would have been wrecked if that deer was truely hung up. Same outcome...probably.

Ive seen bucks cut under fences all the time. white tails nmulies. What's w/ all the conspiracy theory?

  • He didn't go under the bottom wire
  • Doubt he would attempt going through a fence stay
  • The fence isn't torn to hell
  • No visible hair loss, blood, scratches from attempting to get free
  • Seen a few critters die in fences...none in a pretty pose

My conspiracy theory.:D

never seen the horns caught but I have seen one get his front legs caught right in front of me tryig to jump the fence
