Gratuitous Bird and Dog Photos

Why aren’t I flying a falcon this year? 😭

A friend came over a few days ago and flew his falcon over my dog, the amazing Greta Grouse. I borrowed the her - the bird - for the rest of the day to do my annual bird education for the local second graders then took her back over the hill. He offered to let me borrow the bird for a few days to fly but I declined.

I made a video of the flush. Greta had been in point a good 5 min + while we waited for the falcon to get serious before I started. Didn’t put one in the bag this flight.

I think I am going to trap a prairie falcon in the next few weeks to see what I can get going for a few months. I’m still getting skunked running the dog 3 or 4 days per week about half the time — despite so many people in other parts of the state saying this is the best game year they’ve had in a long time. Its not case in my little valley this season. — last year was incredible but recruitment was crap this year and there isn’t much. But I think I can put a few in the bag and have some fun if I can trap a prairie that wants to participate.

Cade on point today. The birds were moving down the draw. She crooks her tail when the situation changes. Birds close gets a very straight tail. Son killed a grey partridge on the flush. I was positioned wrong for a shot.

First group of the day we watched her snap point 400 yards away, uphill. We hiked to her, ridged straight tail, we walked in and my son almost stepped on the greys. We missed. Sigh.
