Death by mower ? naaaaa :)

Needed to cut the grass yesterday after work and I passed over this small area and look at it , seemed a bit out of place and uncovered a small group of little ones. 1.5" lower and bloodshed , 6 in all one is buried under the group. I removed them with all the nesting materials and placed them under my canoe in the back where mama has a lounging hole scratched out. This morning she had them all nestled in nicely. Out of the middle of my yard.

Over the years I've had them kick out a nest in my yard several times. Fortunately I always knew where they were and just mowed around them.
Good they kept their heads down; it could have been messy.

One time the neighbor went out of town. After a few weeks, his lawn was out of control. When I mowed my lawn, I figure I'd help him out and mow his. He had some small bushes by his front porch. The grass was up to the bottom of the bush line. When I pushed the mower up in there, I heard clunking noises coming out. I backed up the mower and I had chopped up a litter of kittens. I'm not a cat lover at all but I would never chop em up like that on purpose. Ugly scene.

That would be ugly. I have not meet a hunter who would not try their best to avoid a ugly serene these.

Nice work saving them. Always funny how in the summer it's compassion at drives you to save them, but in the fall prey drive takes over,

I saved this guy from a fire this spring. He got escorted 20 yds across the barest firebreak

Weird that I happened on this thread! I'm 66 and been cutting grass for the better part of my life with no accidents whatsoever. Yesterday I was over cutting the two yards that I take care of for two old ladies. I skipped the one side yard last week since the grass there didn't need cutting . This week it was just tall enough that I needed to do it to bring it down to match the other parts. I was mowing along and went over a little patch that started moving right after I went over it. I wondered what the heck was going on, so I stopped the mower and knelt down to take a look. Then I could see a little fur and grass mixed together and a little movement and along side it was a tiny piece of bloody fur. I eased back the top and there were 3 little bunnies all snuggled up and I couldn't see any damage done to any of them. I got three stakes and put them around the spot so I could be sure to miss it until they grew enough to leave on their own. They were just a tad smaller than the ones in the OP picture. I then pulled the starter rope of the mower and out shot the parts of a 4th one that evidently had been on top and it was obvious he didn't know what hit him! I felt really bad, but there was not much I could do and it was like the member talked about hitting those kittens. I'd never do something like that on purpose and it will still be a while before I forget about it.

Well another batch of bunny's. I get home Tuesday and decided to relax by cutting the grass that has not been mowed in the 3 weeks I was gone. Didn't think anything of rabbits and in the long grass one took off from under the mower. I turned it off and picked up the lil guy. I was amazed he lost his right ear so he will be known as lefty. I put him back in the hole place cinderblocks around the hole , on my next pass one of the little guys got out and was not so lucky. Out of the 3 only 2 remain.
So now wife'e will be staking out a 5x5' area around the hole and just let the grass grow.

I had a buddy whose dad was a wheat farmer. He once took out a doe and fawn with his harvester. All those years later it still bothered him.

Saved a couple small ones like that this year but have also shot more then a dozen in the yard that were invading my garden. Dang things took out every single beet in the garden.
