Cush, Redman, and CPO's elk trip....

I woke up around 2A.M Friday with my guts rumbling! I ripped open the sleeping bag, dashed out the tent door, and sprinted to the outhouse. It was cold but sweat was dripping down my face as I barley made it to desecrate the commode....picture the scene in Dumb & Dumber after the spiking of the drink with Turbo Lax!
Few will talk about it, but the real benefit of a high quality, expensive sleeping bag is how smoothly that zipper opens when you need it to the most. I imagine a zipper hang up in such a situation could have been devastating to the remainder of your hunt.

Well Friday I fleshed out my elk skull. While I was doing it the green chili, ham hock and beans kicked in......soiled my long handles and be lined it to the outhouse! After washing myself and clothing I took some Pepto Bismol and rested. CPO and I went out to my bear area and hunted. Beautiful evening was surprised we weren't seeing anything and then about 50 yds from us in a willow patch I saw something black moving. Thought forsure it was a bear and as I reached for my gun I caught a glimpse of antlers....it was a bull moose. I whispered to CPO moose and he got to watch him walk to the North of us. He was no hurry and it was cool to watch him. We set there until legal shooting light ended but no other animals were seen. We made the hike back to camp and I got a wave of nausea thought I was going to puke but thankfully it passed. By the time we got back to camp I was feeling much better and Cush had meatballs cooking, Casey wanted mashed potatoes and we also had egg noodles. Very delicious...my favorite meal of the week hands down had to be Cush's moose stew he brought.

Saturday we all just chilled around camp. We reflected beack on past hunts and remembered Pops, CPOs dad who's last hunt was in 2022. He passed the following spring. We talked about what we should or shouldn't do next year. Casey, Cush, and I set in the warm sun for awhile. Not sure what we ate that night but saddened by the realization that we would be packing up camp in the morning.
Morning came to soon and it was all hands on deck. We were getting more snow the whole time. The 2 track out was s scetchey and when we got to the dirt road out we took off chains. We filled up with fuel when we hit the asphalt road. A couple hour drive and we stopped for chicken fried steak and a couple barley pops. Then we headed for CPOs house. CPO was driving like a pissed off teenager m, Cush and Casey lost track of us but still ended up beating us to CPOs house. Cush headed home and Casey and I stayed at CPOs until the next day when we caught our ride home.
Looking forward for the crew to come to Indiana for our annual deer hunt..SFC Born is already here as I finish this chapter!
