Current state of affairs on HT

I've met many HT members from around the country and from outside the contiguous U.S. over my time here.

Most all have been fantastic people. From the HT bear hunts, private party hunt and fish camps, private lands to hunt, setting up camper trailers on my land while traveling through, MT capitol and FWP meetings, to my own travels and joining for breakfast or coffee, including Canada. All reciprocated - thats pretty awesome from keyboard to person. HT is a pretty fantastic site!

Has there been shit moments? Yes.
Only two disappointing moments from years prior.

#1. A HT member shared a pm he received that stated, <they> (including one who recently left), were trying to get me out of HT. Wanted to have him assist... Follow, mock, etc... fk 'em. ;)

#2. This one was a bit of a bummer as I considered him a friend. While we may disagree on some hot topics, I've never harbored disdain for him over our disagreements;
Interesting as it's a popular HT member, at a HT bear hunt gathering. Rainy/muddy evening, a couple new people in the wall tent as I was approaching to join in the camaraderie, they asked one of our main guys from bear camp, who I was on HT.
He shared with a mocking tone, "He's Sytes, the guy Buzz destroyed about the Wilderness Act!" Something to that effect. A few chuckles followed. That was a bummer.
I still walked in, dealt with the uneasiness in the air as they wondered if I heard. Think there were only four or five.
I've shown nothing but respect for him prior to and on forward. He's a popular gent here and with BHA. Meh, could he have introduced me in a more courteous manner? Sure its common understanding who's who on HT at this annual camp though, really? Haha!

I've thick skin and deal with shits daily. He's far from a shit, he's actually overall a quality gent. Besides, his food is pretty darn good! ;)
Like I shared before, I'll happily join a camp with most HT common folk.

For a span of some 60+ HT people I've met / enjoyed time with over my time here, that's pretty darn good.

I know I feel much better about myself whenever I check my reaction score. There’s that going for the new system.

It’s so much easier to say something that gets you virtual affirmation than it is to go out and slay a wild beast to gain the admiration of fellow Cro-magnens. Evolution of human society is a beautiful thing.

(3858 is my official score. Not that I am a score guy or anything. I am more of a meat hunter.)
That’s almost record book level right there. Pretty good for a meat hunter. 😂

IMO there are 2 sides to HT - DM’s and public comments. For me DM’s are the most valuable and useful part of HT. My guess is some members are really missing out by not using this function as much as they could be.

I checked my mailbox and counted 43 message threads. Most of these are discussions about specific hunt areas that doesn’t benefit anyone if the conversation occurs on a public platform. Other conversions are with people who have lived in the same places I have, we have mutual acquaintances, or other personal non-hunting subjects. The #1 purpose of the public forum for me is expanding my network of people I have 1:1 conversations with.

Also, I just tried out the “ignore” function for one member who only ever seems to whine and attack other people, and I love it. Great alternative to feeding trolls.

Love WyoDoug
LOL...I should add, I got threatened by the rancher himself if I harmed his daughter. Remember the song "...cleaning my gun...". That was one hell of a hunt on horseback over some of the steepest terrain. She knew lions though as they were feeding on her family's cattle. I got $500 to hunt that lion and company of a really nice lady to boot. Almost as epic as this years hunt is going to be.

Cowbell?....I’m thinking charcuterie and cheese board. 😊

I was thinking the song " The Girls of Fox News"--by Austin Cunningham. Which I believe John will post when he has the opportunity.

I thought you were "out of pocket", was surprised to see you --pleasantly surprised I might add (-: Seriously. hope your having a wonderful time

Just saw this and made me curious if any folks on HT have a secondary account to stir the pot or “agree with them”. Probably not, but amazing how far people go in the digital world to create noise.

When I started I know someone's signature said something to the effect that "soandso and @JoseCuervo are the same guy." For the life of me I can't remember whose signature that was and who Jose's alter ego were though.

I joined in 2009, so I’m probably a medium-timer culturally, a long timer compared to the mean I guess. Long enough ago I remember some great ones that aren’t on anymore.

I think the average poster in 2020 is a less interesting outdoorsman than in 2010; just dilution by #’s, it’s not like Oak got boring and Bambi forgot how to hunt, ha. Though certainly there are some recently joined guys and gals that are amazing hunters and story tellers; just talking on average.

I’m quite sure there is more noise and volume of generic material than the past. Ironically I wonder if it’s partially due to HT being more tame.

I think you're wrong on this one, and that's okay. Reading through the rest of the thread, it seems many are happy with hunt talk in it's current state and enjoy the "political gamesmanship." I certainly don't want to contribute to any negativity, and keep complaining about how much better something used to be. People and places change, at a seemingly exponential rate.
It’s just your inner curmudgeon coming out. You need a good dose of fried chicken and a Cold Smoke.
