Cramps

Had them one time, both hamstrings at once, while in an FJ40 landcruiser. Those had a 4-6 inch lip that you had to lift your leg and bend it to get out of the vehicle. The seat didn't go back far enough to get away from the steering wheel and the pistol was in the back so you couldn't just shoot yourself to get past the pain. I drove into the bank, turned off the key and just took it. Three times as bad as paying your mother-in-law to live with you. Remember if you suffer enough the good lord will give you a nice bull - or so they say !!

I've often wondered what would happen if they hit me while driving in traffic. Fortunately the only time I got them in the car, I was the passenger.

Almonds, cranberries, instant potatoes, carrots all have somewhat decent potassium levels and will last a little better than bananas on a backpacking trip. Unfortunately the oxalates in some foods like almonds and cranberries give me kidney stones. Keeps me from enjoying my favorite beverage (sweet tea) as well.
I have the same problem with tea. It causes me gout flare ups. At one time I drank a gallon every 2 days come summer time, as did my gout flare ups. Took a long time to link the 2 as tea and gout aren’t routinely linked.

I take a potassium pill and magnesium pill daily when exercise levels are up.

I used to laugh when my dad swore that Blue Emu ointment was amazing at stopping his calf and thigh charley horse cramps. I laugh no more and make sure I have a small jar in my car to rub on before I start driving home after a weekend of early teal season wading and sweating in soft bottomed marshland and then driving home. If I forget to apply before driving back the cHarley horse in my left calf will kick in before we’ve driven 30 miles.

As far as potassium goes, avacado will do better than bananas. Not great for backpacking, but if youre camped out where you have a cooler its no problem. More potassium, no sugar, win win. Half an avacado, a thermos of green tea and a tin of sardines will keep you going for the day. Breakfast of champions.
