That Mayo Clinic podcast that was posted says if it continues to just kind of simmer for a bit more like it is, it will go away as it warms up, and then come back next year but there should be a vaccine by then.

That is an optimistic take - I think he said it might but they don't know.

People trying to figure out case fatality rates, rates of infection, etc, etc without knowing the numerator or the denominator of the equation is helping to drive a lot of the panic. Not trying to sugar coat it and make it sound less dangerous than it is, but the world sure has developed a lot of statistic experts all of the sudden.

Definitely a lot of unknowns. Is it the new Spanish Flu or is it SARS that just kinda disappeared? Only time will tell. But leaders have to make choices without the benefit of hindsight. I like the quote that is floating around - "anything we do today appears to be an overreaction and in hindsight will seem insufficient".

I agree with this 100% but the world doesnt need garbage articles and click baits enhancing the mass hysteria. The outlets doing these things should be ashamed. People are dumb and believe dumb shit look no farther than TP situation.

Complete fear mongering bull crap.
Roughly 60 million Americans contracted H1N1 remember that? Probably not because nobody gave a shit because it wasn't an election year.

H1N1
12,500 deaths / 60 million infections = 0.2% death rate.

Coronavirus
Assume same 60 million infections x Estimated 2% death rate = 1,200,000 deaths.

Although there is a lot unknown, the above is the concern. Of course that death rate could fluctuate either way but so could the infection rate.

And this is the concern underlying those who push for early lock-downs -- quarantines won't put the genie back in the bottle but they can smooth out the curve to allow the med system to manage the influx. I don't know where the perfect balance lies, but I don't think the recent rash of cancellations of large aggregations events (sports, schools, meetings, etc) is an over reaction - it is probably the minimum prudent step.

Agree

Based on some reactions, I'm fairly certain I would not want some of you in the "trenches" with me.

The US Government is the only government who isn't taking this seriously. As of right now America is testing 26 people per 1 million, that's a joke. Italy, South Korea, China etc are testing tens of thousands per million. It also doesn't cost the people anything. The test runs $1500 per person if not insured. $125 - $150 if your provider will cover it or even has the proper test to administer. This is a serious problem

I doubt the NBA suspended the rest of the season simply ‘cuz it is an election year.

Let's not forget those wonderful creatures called LAWYERS.

One person gets sick or dies at any event the ambulance chasers would light them up.

We won't shutting a season because of a virus. It's shutting because of liability.

Trials alone will not complete for a year, none the less an actual approved vaccination. Look forward to hearing the anti-vaxxers preach their tunes. Nature culling the human herd...
