Corona virus

Or you could just read reports coming straight out of other countries and draw your own conclusions. Not everything is a conspiracy. This is going to get bad. Most will survive, many will not.

Like everyone else I am.

Wuhan China has 11 million residents. That's one city. It's been 3 months (supposedly) since outbreak.

China has

1,408,526,449 people.

3000 ish deaths

So roughly 1000 per month, in a country 3x our size, less modern medical.

15000? In a year IF their tradgectory continues(supposedly it's slowed there).

Then you see these wild ass numbers the media pushes, or like I read above(1.2 million).

490 murders in CHICAGO last year.

40 per month.

Any panic?

Of course it would be a story. But it was "TRUMP VIRUS" before we had any deaths.
If you think for a second the media would pound Pres Biden or Pres Sanders like this, you are certifiable.

Let's not forget those wonderful creatures called LAWYERS.

One person gets sick or dies at any event the ambulance chasers would light them up.

We won't shutting a season because of a virus. It's shutting because of liability.

Really, I think it is more a case of social responsibility. Something that is always nice to see. They walked away from money to slow a spread of a pandemic.

You never cease to amaze.....

Guess you forgot. So I'll remind you.

1 GM tweeted support for protesters in China.

For that China throttled the league. Rockets got fined, dude was threatened with his job, players were forced to respond by Chinese sponsors.

So ya, it's a little ironic that WUHAN virus will now cost them billions.

People trying to figure out case fatality rates, rates of infection, etc, etc without knowing the numerator or the denominator of the equation is helping to drive a lot of the panic. Not trying to sugar coat it and make it sound less dangerous than it is, but the world sure has developed a lot of statistic experts all of the sudden.
Statistic almost never give an exact number, but rather a range. Right now the range on a lot of these stats is pretty wide. Some death rates (SK) are low at 0.8% (still 4-8X higher than regular flu) sand some like Italy are over 4% at times. No statistician would EVER get pinned down on a number in a case like this. The answer would be I'm 80% confident it will be between 0.7% and 4.2%. How comforting, right? So you can get articles about how deadly it is right next to articles that say it might be less deadly than we think. It is sort of humorous, but in the current environment of 24/7 news at your fingertips and money is based on clicks, this is what you have to expect.

I listened to podcast last night to US Emergency Med professionals. It was clear the pros are still collecting a lot of useful data from around the globe and they were trying walk the line between saying anything that would panic and making sure it was being taken seriously. Tough task. My only concern was that the Pros talking kept saying they thought the US death rate would be closer to SK at 0.8%. I certainly hope this is true, but 'Hope' is not anything I would base a response strategy on.

We will see. But there's lots of folks in a stadium that ain't ticket holders.

On A side note.

The NBA nearly broke their backs sucking up to the Chinese at the beginning of the season.

I wonder how they like China now?
I would think there is no way to prove you got the virus from attending a Utah Jazz game. Not saying some lawyer might not try. ;)

How?

They voted earlier in the day to play without fans.

Most of not all teams break even through season, playoffs is money maker.

They would still have to open areas, pay players. But get nothing in return?

Don't fool yourself. This was a business decision.

Isn't amazing that Italy will shut their country down to effect our next election!! Makes the Russians look like pikers.

Every day we did not and do not take this virus seriously, it silently doubles its cases every few days. Right now, it is exceeding rare, in a month we will all know some one who has it.

I didn't forget anything.

This virus could have originated anywhere. The fact it started in China is really irrelevant.

If it really is no big deal, why did big daddy shut down all travel from Europe? Why did he sign a bill for 8.5 billion in funds? I agree with the moves Trump has made with both of those decisions, much better than his initial move of calling it a hoax.

See. There is that media spin again.

You can find no place, where he called the VIRUS a hoax.

He did call the media pounding him for it a hoax.

2 different things.

BUT a lie repeated enough 24/7 on continuous loop, makes a great talking point.

I did not see it posted yet but this image has been circulating recently, an example of why limiting public events works. In 1918 when the Spanish flu was spreading Philadelphia held a parade for soldiers returning from WWI while St Louis banned public gatherings, closed schools, libraries, etc.

What also shocked me at Wally World yesterday (more than a normal visit) was what food people were stocking up on. Rice? Gone. Beans? Gone. Ramen? Gone. All while there's frozen vegetables and meat fully stocked. Do people think the virus is going to infect their freezer? At least eat some real food during the apocalypse.

NOOOOOOO. Social justice warrior.

IT IS NOT IRRELEVANT.

Had China acted when THEY KNEW there was an outbreak, it could have been contained.

This is 1000% directly caused by China.

This is the 2nd corona virus epidemic/pandemic caused by China.

Flour.

Flour was gone.

How many people do you think stocked up on flour, who will realize after the quarantine, they don't have yeast?

You are correct here.

That said, if the orange moron could speak coherently and concisely without his broken record ramblings we might not be having this discussion.

All pendanticism aside, the POTUS has repeatedly downplayed the seriousness of the virus and told people they would be fine "going to work".

I just hope mountain house prices stabilize before September.

Idk about where y’all are at but N.C. has done lost their mind about this virus. They’ve got maybe 3 confirmed cases statewide and they are acting like we all gonna die.
The problem is those 3 people were likely contagious 14 days ago. If each of them interacted with 50 people over two weeks (not a high number if you work in an office or go to school or go to the mall) you have 150 new people that then have their own 14 day clock ticking. If each of the 150 have contact with 50 you get to 7,500 and if those 7,500 do the same you get to 3750,000 in 5 or 6 weeks. Someone else posted the day to day "hockey stick" graphs of new cases. No one is saying to panic because 3 people are sick. What they are saying is we need to take steps now to not get to 375,000 in this example by early April. They are worried the 3 will become 30,000 faster than the system can treat them.
