Colorado SB 25-003 gun ban defunds CPW

When I moved to Illinois in the early 2000's, I had to obtain a FOID card. Never heard of such a thing. So I got one. And guess what, it didn't change my life in any material way whatsoever. No trauma, no triggering, no prolonged mental health issues, and most importantly, no infringement, perceived or otherwise. I just acted like a normal adult and got on with my life.

noun
1.
the action of breaking the terms of a law, agreement, etc.; violation.
"copyright infringement"
2.
the action of limiting or undermining something.
"the infringement of the right to privacy"

FOID isn’t bad so long as the state police do their jobs and turn around the paperwork in an appropriate timeframe. If they don’t, then you are up a creek without a paddle- can’t get the card to buy guns or ammo, and it was occasionally pushing a year wait times.

It’s bullshit, but nobody with the power to challenge it wants to do so as that would be political suicide in Illinois.

I guess infringement is in the eye of the beholder. I also got an Illinois drivers license when I was there. My guess is you have one too.

Would it be a big deal to you if you had to get govt permission to express your opinion (free speech) or would that infringement on that right be onerous to you? The two rights are very close together in the US Constitution.
So did you submit to the 'ol driver's license infringement or did you just get one and get on with your life?

State charged the woman for having a firearm in her home without an FOID card. Article says the judge ruled the requirement of a FOID Card to defend oneself inside their own home violated the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. “If there exists a place in life where a person should feel safe and protected, it is within the confines of one’s home".

Apparently the case will be again heard by the Illinois Supreme Court for the third time in eight years.

Do you acknowledge that there is a difference between a right and a privilege? Driving is not a constitutionally protected right. The SC has held that constitutional rights can be limited, but generally, it is in very specific, rare and extreme circumstances.

Since you are such a huge FOID law fan, I would like to congratulate Illinois on virtually eliminating gun violence and making Chicago the safest city in America through nation-leading, most restrictive gun laws. Surely IL politicians will stop pushing gun control laws now that they have a FOID law and assault weapons ban on the books that have ended gun violence. Oh wait, no they won’t because that would mean they no longer receive millions in campaign donations from Everytown for Mike Bloomberg.

That is an interesting perspective, I have always looked at something like "beauty" being in the eye of the beholder, different people can have a different perspective. Infringement has a definition, and how I understand the circuit court judges findings (having a firearm inside ones home and being charged for not having a FOID card) was unconstitutional and thus an infringement.

I do have a drivers license. I am struggling to see how the two are comparable. One is a right that is protected by the United States Constitution, the other is a law created by Illinois. Driving is a privilege, but the ability for people to keep and bear arms is a right.
