CO Mountain Lion Ballot Initiative: Continuous Updates

I hadn't seen the final spending numbers. Interesting to see that the proponents outspent by almost a million dollars ($2.8m spent to support it and $1.9m spent against it) but it still was voted no by what seems to be a good margin to me.

Congratulations Colorado!

wow, this is great to hear, been following this through ME and as a flatlander and one who will probably never hunt/trap cats, I'm glad that this failed. I honestly thought this was going to pass fairly easy due to the language.

As a former resident of CO (and resident during prop 114 debacle), it is great to see that Coloradoans stepped up and defeated another attempt at circumventing wildlife professionals. Cheers!

Of course they’re gonna sit back and cry foul of a disingenuous misinformation campaign, it’s the crux of politics.

Water under the bridge. All that matters is the voters saw through their veiled campaign.

Let’s coalesce, not let up, and move on. Big day for Colorado sportsmen and women.

It's funny to hear them cry about misleading information by the opponents with the TITLE of the initiative was misleading by having ban Trophy hunting of cats when that was already not even legal and what they were really wanting to do is ban hunting of cats period.

I think that actually hurt them as much as anything. If they can't be honest about the title of the initiative the chances of them being honest about any of it is pretty low.

“Supporters of the measure did not concede Tuesday. At a watch party in Boulder, Cats Aren’t Trophies campaign manager Samantha Miller tearfully said the group had run a “thoughtful, honest and science-based campaign,” which she said ran into misinformation by the opposition. But Miller celebrated the campaign’s progress and votes across the state.”

Let’s be fair - messaging on both sides of the issue were guilty of mis-information (or at a minimum, over-dramatization). But that’s just ‘politics’ in today’s world.

“...The pack is set loose in nature, tracked by phone app, often aided by drones. It’s a long, raucous, and terrorizing attack on unoffending native animals, who seek safety up a tree. It resembles the canned hunt as wildlife has nowhere to run, no chance to survive.

and...

“...violent predators threatening the safety of our pets, children, and neighborhoods”

We can all be better. (Now cut to @Oak saying ‘stay Golden, Pony Boy’ :) )

Will there be any attempt to do a legislative fix to ballot biology or is that even possible?
