chukars

who's still rocking the pump? That's ridiculous for chukar!
That's me. I have shot an 870 for the last 39 years. I can shoot it as fast as any semi auto. I have killed 5 individual birds on a covey rise quite a few times. I've tried to switch to other shotguns over the years but I have never shot them as good, so it's always back to old reliable. lol

I can't hit birds, or find birds, or outwalk people, and I certainly don't have the best dog, but I'd venture to say, no one... and I mean no one, puts more lead in the sky. I've started walking in on coveys with extra shells between my teeth for Round II

That's a great idea. I might have to try that. It kills me to hunt where you can only have 3 shells. I know guys that love their O/U or S/S but I'm just not one of them.

I’m dumb enough to still be swinging a 12Ga 870 for all my birds. Chukars, Huns, pheasants…. By the end of the day I hate it but I always pass up the 20ga version on the next outing. Someday I’ll learn.
I always shot a 12 gage for years. Now I only use it for waterfowl. The 20 gage is way easier to carry and shells are smaller. Kills birds just like a 12.

I’ve got a 20 gauge but it must be a ladies model or something. About 3/4” shorter than the standard stock but not as short as the little youth models Ive seen. Even the standard stock length is for an 870 is probably too short for me but that’s basically all I’ve ever shot and i shoot it well.

I actually always shorten the stocks on my 870. 13 1/2" trigger pull. It helps me with mounting the gun quicker.

I carry a Benelli Ultra Light in 12 gauge. 6.1 pounds but only 3 shells. I don’t feel I’m losing anything by not carrying 5. For the most part, I only get three shot opportunities at a covey rise. Chukars could give a few more opportunities if they popcorn up. My BUL has all the scratches on it you would expect after a prolonged campaign on the chukar slopes.
